Robin, that was supposed to be welted botyom or welt, Angie's term for knitted band. My phone re- spells for me!
Also agree maybe try the Pleione style. It is not exactly band bottom so is not as pouf- prone.

This exact same style isn't as prevalent but there are many like this being shown.

The closest match I could find to the 2008 top was the first Find. It's an Ellen Tracy wrap front top with banded hem. It's a little more fitted than the one from 2008 but otherwise similar. (I think a welted hem and banded hem are the same thing, no?)

But if you don't require the welt/banded hem, there are lots of wrap front tops out there right now! The plus is that they look modern and are midriff forgiving. The negative is that they are voluminous and the structure is provided by either being sleeveless or having a deep v neckline.

Examples of these tops are the second and third finds, from Vince Camuto and Pleione respectively.

The fourth through sixth finds are wrap tops, a bit more fitted than #2 and #3, and in knit fabric like the 2008 top. If you are not a plus size and can't wear Find #1, then I would go for one of these because they have more structure and the knit fabric is comfortable. Find 4 is from Vince Camuto, while Finds 5 and 6 are from Classiques Entier. #5 and 6 are the same top just in different fabric colors.

Finally, I added three more Finds that have the banded / welt hem but not a wrap front design. #7 is from Chaus and a peasant neckline, while 8 and 9 are more plus sized options. I recall that you are petite so probably won't fit in these but maybe someone else is interested.

I'm not familiar with welter hem tops. What are they?

I've worn band-bottom tops before, and was never quite sure how to wear them flatteringly. I think I had the mistaken belief that wearing them bloused out would draw attention to my midsection and make it look giant. I'm guessing that's generally not the case for these sorts of tops.I'm not familiar with welter hem tops. What are they?

I wonder if you are really looking for band- bottom and welter hem rather than belted at the waist? Those are good on Apple types and tend to be available in lots of options.

Sadly, I'm more of an apple, so that wrap top probably wouldn't work on my body.

Looks like I'm 7 years too late for the style of tops in the post I linked. :(
Your reply

The one Aida linked to is very pretty. It is quite different from the ones in Angie link though, which are knit tops and drapy.

(I wish I could wear the one Aida linked to - but with my small difference between bust and waist that style just doesn't work for me)

Angie included a belted wrap top in her roundup post today, here's what she said along with the link:

Aleta Wrap Top: A soft shirty blouse with waist definition. Good on hourglass and pear shapes.

It's white and lightly textured, with long sleeves, a shirt collar and a wider belt. Very pretty looking.

I haven't looked yet, to see if all of these features are being offered in a top at the moment. How ever I do see lots of wrap tops and dresses around and I think I've seen a belted wrap top on Nordstrom's.

The tops described in this post

http://youlookfab.com/2008/04/.....itted-top/

sound like they'd be perfect for me - but these are from seven years ago!

Are people still wearing belted wrap tops? If so, where would I find them?

All of the features sound like they'd suit my body type and style preferences, though as always, with a wrapped item, I'd worry about too much fabric overwhelming my petite frame.

That's all moot, of course, if this style of top isn't being shown right now.Your post
