Chiming in again....too late for the party I know....but just wanted to add that the red belt looks fabulous with this dress. Even if you didn't wear it this time, do give it a chance another time.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with a belt for tomorrow, but the only other waist belt that I have is a little lose. It turns around easily as well as moving up and down. Here's a few pictures of it.

I prefer it belted too, it looks a great fit to me.

I would have thought you could wear a variety of dress styles- shift, sheath, maxi, draped, shirt dress.....depending on your preferences.

Have a fun party!

I'm with Deb. You probably look great in a sheath dress with your body type, as long as you get good fit. A shift dress would also be great if you are ok with surrendering the waist.

Cute dress and I like it belted. I think the fit on the bodice looks better when belted. However I'm with crutcher and krishnidoux.....a different belt may look better. Perhaps a black patent one or something metallic. Even a velvety ribbon belt. I think this pretty dress requires something more femme on the waistline. What do you think? I'm a petite hourglass too and I suit shift and sheath dresses, belted shirt dresses and wrap dresses....maybe worth a try for you. I live in Australia, so am no help recommending American retailers for you beyond the famous DVF wrap dress. Hopefully some one else can help. Enjoy the party on the weekend.

Belted looks so fab...I would perhaps consider a different belt but whether you change or not, the look is still just perfect for you...not too anything..smile

I would go belted, It looks cute.
You could go for a more delicate belt, it would change the whole look.
To me, from here, I can't see that it is too large on the shoulder.

Hello ladies! So I'm going to a party this weekend, which isn't for Halloween by the way, and I needed a new dress. I had a lot of trouble finding one that flattered my body. When I found this little black dress I fell in love with it on the hanger. However, after finding the smallest size it was still too big around the waist and the shoulders too wide. But it was near closing time, and I just decided to get the dress because I had no other time to go shopping again. I figured id just use a belt around the waist.

Once I got home though and tried it with the belt, I'm still iffy about it. Since the shoulders are too wide it makes it look too big in the chest. Also the waist on the dress is a little low since I have a short waist and long legs, so I had to much it up a bit to hit my smallest part.

So, since I couldn't make the decision myself, I decided to post on here! Do you think I should go with the belt or no belt? Also, what are some dress styles and brands that flatter petite, short waist, slim, hourglass body shapes? Thanks!!

Ps sorry for the messy room, it's stress season and I tend not to be organized.
