I have the same problem as you since i lost weight due to illness. not sure how much I would put back on or what size I would end up being I found the perfect belt like the one posted by Joy at Target. great because the holes are all the way around so it fits whatever size I need. Also for my white pants I took an old white cord belt off another pair of old pair of white pants and it works great with untucked tops that a dark belt may show thru.

Donna posted a great belt collection. I am short waisted so it is good visually to blend a belt with the color of my top, look at belts at TJ Max. Marshall’s, the Rack, cheapies at Target after you identify a color you want.
I wear metallic belts most. The blush belt is also a workhorse. It helps if a belt blends with your footwear or bag. Don’t forget to look at men’s belts.

Thanks for the kind words Jess! Those are honestly the simplest and not very expensive plain black belts - the wide one is Gap I'm sure, and the skinnier one I have no idea because it's so old, I think it might be the now-defunct Mexx ... I think the trick for me was learning the semi-tuck so I was actually showing them :)

I also have a neutral faux-snakeskin one that I wear a ton; it's super-worn out so I have to replace it. An neutral-print belt of some sort is a great idea, such as Donna is showing above.

I almost always wear a belt with my jeans, and try to match or blend my belt with the jeans color because I have short legs and want to lengthen my leg line. I also mostly semi-tuck, aka French tuck, so the buckle and a portion of the belt shows.

Below are a few of my newer belts. I also have a couple of gray ones, a couple of cognac ones, a silver one, a clear one, and others that don't come immediately to mind. A lot. Belts that are advertised as leather aren't necessarily leather. The price is a clue. But they can be cute and fun, and you just have to recognize that they are consumables like tights. Cue belt with cartoon pattern from Amazon.

My favorite width is 1.5" or close to it. I really don't care for the 1" wide ones. I figured that out after I bought the leopard and red ones. But I like my gray ones which are probably about that width. Go figure.

Of course, the black grommet one is for a really rugged look with rugged footwear, and the black studded one is for a more refined look.

Jess, I did reply to your belt question on my old outfit post, but in case you didn't see it, here is my current favorite, and the one in the post was I'm pretty sure from Banana Republic (simple brown leather one with silver hardware).

Per below, mine's from Urban Outfitters but I've seen a similar style at several stores. Aldo recently had an inexpensive and slight smaller/dressier version.

I can’t say I am a fan of the red coloring, probably because I most often wear basic coloring and my favorite color in clothing is black, so for me buckles will most likely be silver, but I do appreciate the ideas and I bet it looks great on you with the other clothing you shared!

Most of my belts are more statement-y and unusual, but I will share a couple.

If you don't mind a wider belt (they fill my belt loops), I have a couple from an etsy shop (MAXAVI) that are pretty great. He's a great leathersmith and has several finishes and buckles to choose from. Here are my two newer ones from him; he makes 'solid' color ones too. His buckles are of the chunkier variety.

Another that gets a lot of wear is a 1.5" wide old braided JCrew belt and a similar one to this men's double prong belt.

But wait, there's more!

You've got me thinking about my other belts now. I like them too, but I hardly ever wear any belt. To me, they go better with the heavier clothes I wear in fall/winter. Maybe we could do a belts challenge this fall. I'm posting them here in hopes of getting comments, but if you'd prefer, I could delete & start a new thread to keep the focus here on belts for you.

This gold one from Linea Pelle has kind of a 60s vibe in my mind. I could wear it with my cranberry flare jeans or my paisley cord skirt. Might work with the green pants too.

This big wide elastic one is what I thought of when La Ped suggested a belt for my new jumpsuit, but there's a self-belt it might not get along with. It might be cute with a prairie skirt, if I get one. I also have a lace dress I'd love to rough up with it--but it's across the ocean and probably too small right now. I'll have to think on it & find some other partners for this guy.

That's all for now, but I have noticed numerous leather workers and cobblers in Berlin, so may up this part of my game over the next year or two--I'm not buying much for now, until I get a handle on my summertime needs here. I really like these pants and note that there is a similar pair in NAS. I think they need a belt. There are a couple other types of pants I want to get this fall. I should plan belts as I consider those purchases.

Thanks for starting this topic!

If you are new to belts, and belting in general, I’d start with target or the gap, ie some place with fashion but low prices. Try a couple on, buy a couple and wear them. That will give you an idea of what you like or don’t like.

I think Xtaby's idea is a good one, because what belt works has a lot to do with the rest of the look.

Here are my favorites, but just because I like them, I don't necessarily think you should get same. It depends on your style.

I wore this fancy sash/belt with a simple dress to a wedding rehearsal dinner a couple years ago. It's from Soft Surroundings, was marked way down and worked just right. Still love it, still have it, still don't know when I'm going to wear it again.Wearing it around town for no reason would have people calling you Delta Dawn.

The flower belt is a favorite too. It's a Target cheapo to replace a leather one from Ethiopia I've lost track of. I like to wear it with jeans and these boots in an outfit that can't decide if it's cowboy or boho. But if you hate those styles, then this is ew for you.

I like this belt bag a lot, but it doesn't live in my closet. Maybe I'll get its cousin this fall. But if you like to carry a bag, then having one on your belt is superfluous.

So show us what you've got, and what you like, and people will comment.

I wear belts even with my high waisted pants. My personal rule is that if pants have belt loops, I wear a belt. I don't have pictures but my two favorites are both Rebecca Minkoff. One is black leather with silver studs in a repeating star burst pattern. The other is brown suede with an embroidered flower pattern. They are both 1 1/2" width so I wear them mostly with jeans. My dressier belt is an Ann Taylor Black and Tan belt with gold hardware. It is 1" and a smaller size so it is easy to wear with high waist pants. I recently thrifted all my belts that were wider than 1 1/2 inches as well as my woven leather belts as they felt dated to me. I will try to take and post pics of my belts when I have a chance.

Angie, I will read the other topics, but I do plan on tucking in and want to use real belts not the invisibelts. Even if jeans fit properly I most likely will want to belt them I like how it looks, so I would like to focus on belts and outfits including belts.

I know members wear belts I’ve seen a few outfits but the topics weren’t about belts so I didn’t ask, and I don’t think old topics help with current fashion, as it changes constantly. I think this new discussion is more helpful and a way I can feel engaged in a topic I want to know more about.

Jess, most of us, probably, wear high waisted jeans now and they don’t need belts. Try to search older posts.

Hi everyone!

Its my first fashion post on here I’m excited to be a part of this community.

I have to buy all new jeans, and belts because my jeans tend to slide down and it’s been years since I had to wear belts, I am belt challenged but want to change that with your help.

What basic leather or faux leather belts do you all wear with your jeans that are black or brown with ordinary buckles?
Can you post photos of your belts and also some outfit photos wearing the belts with jeans so I can get some ideas. Thanks! ❤️
