Michelle,

I actually have a white puffer coat w/fur trimmed hood, with chevron stitching from Land End and l love it. It even came in petite length and fits me like a glove. Still I like to keep warm layers underneath it for added warmth. It took me years to find one that was perfect! My Jacket was not featured on the link you provided....which leads me to believe they are in the midst of swimsuit clearance right now. But like the others said, try Sept/Oct when they feature more selection. I'm sure they will have the jacket...I've seen it for a few years now.

I've got an older Eddie Bauer long down coat without any quilting and an Anne Klein diamond quilted down puffer. The quilted is much more flattering and I like that the down stays in place. Maybe there are better versions of non-quilted now.

Thank you, Maya. That's *exactly* the style of puffer Michelle needs in her wardrobe. Look at the length! Perfect for tall Michelle.

Landsend makes good puffers actually. Eddie Bauer too. Lets revisit this thread in Sept.

Michelle, the coat Maya linked to would be PERFECT for you. It meets all your requirements and is so stylish to boot. I would also hold off a bit ~ Lands' End will have tons of new styles very soon. I remember quite a few chevron patterns from them in the last season or two.

My puffer coat is from LL Bean. I am a huge fan of both Lands' End and LL Bean for winter outerwear. There's nothing on LL Bean's website right now, but that will change pretty soon.

I love the chevron coat that mama pointed out. I also have had great luck with Land's winter coats. I have a couple and so do my mom and sister.

The great thing about Land's End is that you can return your coat any time, no questions asked. So if in October, you find something that you like better or that works better, just send the coat back.

Michelle, I think it's waaaaaaay too early to start looking for puffers. I would wait until October at the earliest. I'm not sure how it works in Canada, but puffers seem to pop up by the thousands on Black Friday. Did you see the puffer Angie posted in the store last season? I would love to see you in something along those lines. The shape is perfect.

http://youlookfab.com/store/20.....ffer-coat/

I hope they have something similar because it is really perfect. You just don't get much better than that...

Michelle, I have a puffer that is a slate gray color and has a satiny sheen to it. It's North Face. I'm just bringing it up as an example of the wide variety of colors you can find in puffy coats nowadays.

I think the diamond quilting or no quilting would be the least marshmellowy, and a dark color (maybe slate gray, since black can be a little harsh?).

Agree with other posters that unless you find something you can't live without, waiting for new coat stock is a good idea.

My puffer is from Lands End. I'm a fan! Mine is also black and I wear colorful scarves to brighten it up. Looks great, in my opinion! The selection on their website is really slim right now... they will have TONS more in a few months. I'd wait a little bit too.

I wish that the Lands End site would provide measurements. They don't even show this coat on a model to judge the length. If you think you may order it, it might be a good idea to email Lands End and ask for the length and maybe other measurements in your size. It may be longer than you want.
The hood is interesting in that you can remove the faux fur only or the whole hood. As mentioned, the big patch pockets on the front are noticable and not in a good way, but they will be less noticeable in the black color. It's hard to tell if the coat is at all fitted in the waist. Maybe Boof can tell you if her's is.

Michelle, honestly I'd wait until the new stuff starts coming out. I'm sure there will be something that you'll love. I guess the pattern really isn't true chevron. It's quilted diamonds that are turned on end, so they're vertical which creates the nice flattering lines. It is a quilted puffer, but it's very low-profile. It insulates well without being thick.

Michelle- I think you should look for something with a belt or other type of waist definition. None of the Lands End ones really have that, so I would keep looking. You will have plenty of time to find just the right one.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Meredith, your description of the fur trim sounds rather nice, actually. Does it look the same on this coat?
One question about the pattern...Does that mean it's quilted? Could someone describe the pattern? Are the seams on the coat vertical or diagonal?
And...is this even worth bothering with, or shoudl I keep looking?

I bought the mid-thigh version of the Dory parka last winter and really enjoyed it. However, I live in Atlanta, so our winters are a bit different than yours. I also liked it due to the chevron pattern and the fact that it's not super puffy. I pulled my coat from the closet, and the fur trim is predominantly a silvery-blonde color with a little light brown and a few wispy dark brown (almost black) at the tips. It's a very neutral fur trim. Does that description make sense?

Yeah, it's a rainy, humid July day, basically the antithesis of puffer coat weather, but I still want to start devoting some time to that search anyway. I have the perfect red wool coat, now it's time to address the other necessity for a Canadian winter.
I do have a chocolate brown Junge coat that feels like suede but isn't. The weight and length are perfection and there's lots to like about it...but I never felt 100% comfortable with the fact it was chocolate brown. If I replace it with a black option, as I'm considering, I'll sell the brown one because it's still in good shape (people here will have first dibs).

So, initial questions. I doubt I'm slim enough to pull off a white or cream puffer and am thinking of going with black. It's conventional, but I can brighten it up with scarves, and Angie helped me sellect a purple and green patterned one that sounds like it will fit the bill and look very chic in that kind of context. Am I offbase or do you agree?

Secondly...and don't kill me...I'm wondering what the Land's End puffers look like. I trust their quality and the prices are quite reasonable considering, plus they come in my dratted size.
What I am looking for is:
knee-length (just trust me)
minimal marshmallow action (quilted? Not quilted? Not sure what's best there)
Hooded, preferably with contrast faux-fur trim (do they ever have white trim on these things)?
Vertical/chevron detailing, as emphasized by Angie
Tailored waists would probably work on hourglassy me.

With all that in place, here's the link to all of Land's End's current selection of long down coats. Do *any* of them fit the bill? Should I even keep looking there?
http://www.landsend.com/ix/ind.....+down+coat

Thank you for humouring my early winter furvor!
