Ivory cotton sateen. Our sets are a zillion years old and so soft! I also love a cotton matelassé layer in Summer and a couple of layers of light cotton quilts. I am fortunate to have some quilters on my side of the family.

I have white cotton sheets and pillowcases, two gray cotton blankets, a gray silk quilt for coldest weather, and cover it all with a floral print duvet in beige and gray which is used as a bedspread. I did try a silk pillowcase but it didn't work for me.

I find the silk pillowcases more comfortable than cotton. I think my hair behaves better after sleeping on them too. I don’t know if there is anything to the “preventing facial wrinkles” thing, but they do feel pleasant on the skin!

I just launder and dry them with the sheets. I used to baby them and hang them to dry, but after mistakenly putting them in the dryer and finding them no worse for the wear, I just go with it unless I think to hang them (usually our cleaning lady is the one to do the sheets laundry so I’m not too precious about the silk pillowcases).

Lisa, regarding the silk pillowcases, they're often sold as preventing facial wrinkles, although that's probably overstated at best, a flat-out lie at worst.

However, there are a lot of other benefits in that they feel silkier and smoother than cotton or other linens, they provide less friction on hair and skin (which can help if a person is scne-prone or has sensitive skin), and they regulate temperature well, much like silk clothing does. They supposedly absorb less moisture, so they keep skin hydrated better and don't absorb as much of the serums or facial products a person might use at night. Silk is also less hospitable to dust mites and allegens than cotton is.

I just find them more comfortable than cotton. And I probably mistreat my silk pillowcases, as I wash them and dry them on the regular cycle, but they always come out great.

OOOH! I completely misunderstood ;)

Personally, it's the silky feel, super smooth texture, and cool touch that my sensitive facial skin enjoys. It was recommended by a few dermatologists too.

Cotton sheets for us. They feel so nice and crispy. We currently have some that are white with a thin gray stripe and I like them, except they wrinkle, ugh. I don't like dark sheets but don't mind lighter colors. We have a down blanket on top of the sheets (not a comforter) and it is good year round. Then in winter we add a heavy velvet blanket at the foot that we can pull up if needed.

I prefer high thread count 100% cotton but with a smooth finish — not too crispy. White or cream color (we alternate the two). I also have a silk Blissy pillow cover (champagne color).

On top of the sheets we use a cotton blanket and a cotton quilted bedspread.

The dogs destroyed our old down comforter one day in a restless fit (yes, I came home to feathers all over the bedroom — and y’all may wonder why I say I can’t wear anything nice around the dogs!), and we haven’t bothered replacing it since the quilt and blanket combination work well for a variety of seasonal needs. They’re all easily washable, and these big crazy dogs are really hard on our bedding (yes, we allow them on the bed), so I’m not inclined to change anything until the era of catahoulas has passed and we have smaller, more docile dogs again! LOL

Ah, yes, I failed to ask colour preferences. In keeping with my easy to launder theme, I stick to white sheets and ivory quilts. The very slight contrast makes for a soothing combination, and for some reason, they simply FEEL cleaner to me.

I tried a grey quilt/bedspread once, and just could not do it. It felt too dark, and it was kind of depressing walking into the room. That bedspread didn't last long at all! I switched back to an ivory cotton quilt and never looked back.

I have seen lots of pictures of non-white bedding, and it often looks beautiful; I just haven't been able to make it work for me. Perhaps I am just stuck in my ways!

I used to love crispy bedding. Last year I changed my preference after spending months in bed with a broken leg. Now I want softness and linen provides it. I iron all pillows cases, but not the linens although I used to do it. Solid colors only, the shades of grey and bright white. Still have one set of patterned bedding in my son/guest bedroom. That irritates me and should change it!

Duvet with cotton cover. I would like to go with just a bottom sheet and the duvet (with cover) as I’ve experienced in European B&B’s and hotels, however DH prefers a conventional bed with bottom and top sheet, blanket, and duvet.

Linen bedding, cotton bedspreads, silk pillow cases for sleeping pillows - these are my choices. I also like high thread count cotton and still have such bedding for my son’s/guest bedroom. I would love muslin cover for the summer but it’s not a good choice with my cats.

The post about linen has me wondering, what do you prefer as material for sheets? Bedspreads? Pillowcases? There are so many options now - linen, cotton, silk, bamboo, microfiber or polyester blends of all different types that many people seem to like, satin, flannel, etc.

I very much prefer high thread count cotton sheets. They soften up as they are washed (and given how often sheets get washed, that happens quickly), they are relatively cool and absorbent (when it isn't cool). They can be safely bleached and they last well for me. Poly blend sheets are far too hot, and I've never felt a linen soft enough to sleep on. Flannel feels like sleeping on the soft side of velcro to me.

Likewise with bedspreads/blankets/quilts - I prefer 100% cotton in the summertime, although I don't mind something faux-furry in the winter. Regardless of the season, I prefer something soft enough to lie on top of. I also like cotton quilts because they can be washed in my large capacity washer at home, while most other things in King size need to be washed in a larger-capacity machine that I don't have at home.

As for pillowcases, I prefer silk, and I buy them separately. I'd like to try silk sheets at some point, although I am not convinced from the pillowcase that they would be worth the expense.

Over to you. Your thoughts? Preferences? Likes/dislikes?
