Shiny, I examined the skirt carefully before purchase since I had already made an error with a beautiful skirt that I will have to give up because it can't be shortened. I think where I will want the hem will fall perfectly to go ahead and shorten it, and since there is a repeating pattern, one will never know one part of the pattern was lopped off.

Angie, the saleslady didn't offer me the Classic Rider in white, and believe me, if they had had it, I would have tried it on, since she had me try on virtually everything else in the store! There is a retailer fairly near that carries Luckys; I may be able to pop in and see if they have it. However, my budget can't handle another Luckys purchase again so soon!

Thanks for the compliment, Nicole! *blushing* I agree with you that the skirt could be a little shorter. I was unsure, since it was a fuller skirt, if it needed to be a bit longer than the established ideal knee length for a slim skirt. I actually like a bit of knee showing, but I don't like the way a skirt rides up when I sit down! My legs are so short anyway it doesn't need to go far to be in private territory! Thus, I tend to go a bit more conservatively on the length.

Hmmm. Favorite store and purchase... Keep in mind that my time was very limited and I wasn't able to even go into many stores I would have liked to shop at my leisure. Of those I did visit, I would have to say BR was probably my favorite in terms of going in and thinking that many of the items could really work for me, with the added bonus of coming in petite sizes. Interesting side note: MOA didn't even have a J Crew. I would have thought they would have every retailer known to man. I had hoped to try some of the pieces the "J Crew junkies" rave about! I think my favorite purchase was the handbag. Of course, I have used it every day since I bought it, so that may be why.

Joy, I'm glad the skirt worked for you. And that's interesting about their sizing. I have worn LLBean jeans in the past (before YLF and my vow to quit buying "mom jeans"), and now that I think of it, I did go up a size or so. I ordered the white denim skirt from Ann Taylor that Tanya found, so I'll see if that works for me. *fingers crossed*

Concerning the llbean denim A-line skirt..I bought this skirt in the enzyme wash (dark) in the spring when I couldn't find a denim A-line skirt. It isn't urban or edgy, but it's been my go to piece for casual wear and a dressier look than walking shorts. The fabric is softer than most denim and drapes well, especially after washing. The vertical seams are slenderizing. It skims the body beautifully without extra fabric.
The one thing to be careful of is sizing. I find that llbean bottoms run small, and this skirt is no exception. I called and talked to a customer service person with my measurements. She suggested I order a size 10 (when in other brands I was wearing a 4!). I did when she assured me I could return it and blame her for the fit if it didn't work and no postage would be charged. It fit as promised. If they had it in white I would order it too.

Becky, this is so exciting! I don't really have anything to add--you've gotten some great advice from the ladies. I'm curious about your favorite store and favorite purchase as well.

LOVE your bag, great choice!

Welcome back Becky! You look fantabulous! I actually think the turquois skirt will look great shorter. I don't think losing some of the pattern will hurt it--only enhance it. I also think you could go even shorter with the first skirt. But it looks good that length too. I noticed that I often suggest a shorter skirt, when others say the length is perfect--so I must visually prefer a little bit of knee showing. But not everyone is comfortable showing a little knee.

I love the bag and shoes. What was your favorite store in the mall? And what was your favorite purchase?

What Angie and the others said... I particularly like the first skirt outfit, the shoes, and the handbag.

LLBean skirt: steer clear of LLBean and Land's End. I suspect you are too petite for either. If I recall, you're about my own height, 5'0", right? I have never been able to fit into any of their stuff.

The turquoise skirt: I'm concerned about hemming this. Will you loose the pattern?

Thank you, Angie, for your advice and reassurance. It's nice to know I am learning to make some good choices. I checked online for the Lucky Classic Rider in white and did not find it. Are there other sites to check besides the Lucky Jeans site?

Welcome back Becky and we missed you. Glad that you had a super trip and I have NO doubt that you’re happy to be back home. Funny how that’s often the case.

I have been waiting to hear about your shopping trip. Sounds like you did really well and thats a great achievement. Here’s my 2 cents:

o	Fab jeans! Perfect! Well done and you can double up on these if you like. I’d wash them a few times and hem. Commit to a length (flats probably). Good luck with the alteration. I know it’s a hassle in your neck of the woods.
o	Yay! Your new bras sound wonderful.
o	How about the same Lucky jeans in white?
o	You can do better than the LL Bean denim skirt. That cut is for someone much bigger than you. Pass.
o	First skirt outfit: Beautiful! So pretty my dear Becky and you look superb in black. Love it! The shoes are delicious! I’m thrilled you found WW’s that you can wear and adore. Perhaps they’ll get more comfy. This is the best outfit I’ve seen you post. I’m tickled.
o	Second skirt outfit: Another crowd pleaser once the skirt is shortened. You wear turquoise well. Love the way you added the yellow handbag and pink shoes. Perfect colour combination! I like the idea of more waist definition with a skinny belt for this ensemble. Perhaps in white or a metal?
o	Wonderful handbag! It’s the perfect oversized dimension for your petite frame.
o	I like white or black cami’s under a white top best, but Ana makes colorful camis work well for her style and I’m sure you’ll get that down too.

I am proud of you Becky. You did marvelously well. You are a stylish little thing. Inspire others you shall!

Tanya, that's so sweet of you to do so much sleuthing for me. Of the skirts, I like the Ann Taylor white denim the best. Actually, the Harold's one is nice too, but for knee length on me, I need 21" or shorter. I'm leery of skirts that need shortened unless I can see them in person to verify that it could be done without a problem (if you recall my beautiful denim skirt that can't be shortened). The Talbot's one is also a possibility, but I'm not sure about flap pockets with my generous bootie. I was in two different AT stores, but I don't remember trying the white denim on. I'll order it and give it a try. I think the first AT wrap top you posted for Sarah is still one of my favorites, so I'll order them both today while the 30% off deal is going. I'm not sure about wrap tops in knits vs. wovens. I need more experience to know my preferences. When I think of a wrap top, in my mind I'm usually picturing knit. Of course, my preferences are for cooler colors, and brights (vs. pastel-ish). I love red, bright pinks, etc., and I'm trying to incorporate more cool greens and blues into my wardrobe for variety.

Thanks, Dani. I did have a nice trip, although it is good to be home. Two weeks on the road with my mom, grandma, and two daughters is plenty! We had a great time visiting family and taking in the (kid-friendly) sights. St. Paul has a fabulous children's museum!

Wow, Becky! Welcome back.

I love your jeans! I would do as Tanya says for the hemming. Good luck finding a new tailor!

I think you look nice in black...it's funny, I've just been ordered by Angie to try a black shirt and I normally steer VERY clear of black! I think you wear it well! The shoes are adorable, sorry they're not more comfy. Sometimes we have to sacrifice a little :)

I LOVE the turquoise skirt outfit. I agree with Tanya to try a skinny belt, but I think it looks fine the way you have it. You look very summery!

Sounds like you had a very hectic, but fruitful, day of shopping. Did you have a nice trip otherwise? Hope so!

Becky, it is so great to have you back! We have missed you here. I'm glad that your shopping trip went reasonably well and that you had fun. And thanks for the long post!

I am very glad you have the right bra, That makes wonders for one's outfits!

The Lucky jeans fit you amazingly good! Perfect! As for the hemming, I would wash them and dry them the same way you'd be doing in the future, and then have them hemmed. I used to do the tucking thing all the way around back in high school with straight leg jeans and it worked well, but I'm not sure if it will stay put on the bootcuts. You'll have to try and see.

I am not a big fan of that Land's End skirt, I think you could do much better. I'll post something later if I find it.

Love everything about the first skirt outfit: the skirt, the top, the shoes! Especially the shoes! And I think that the black looks nice on you.

I like the second skirt outfit too, especially after the skirt is shortened. Maybe you could try it with a thin silver belt? That pink knit top is amazing, I'd snap it up this moment. And love your yellow bag!

I'll look for more wrap tops and post them if I find them. I think that first one from the old post would be smashing on you! Do you have in preference in color and knits versus wovens?

Glad that you found tanks, and sorry about the bad luck with dresses. Have you tried short sleeved jersey wrap dresses by any chance? * innocently batting eyelashes*

It is very nice to have you back too!

At last, the promised report on my shopping trip to Mall of America: I had posted a shopping list before going ( http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....pping-list ), and while I didn’t get everything on my list, I feel I did make some headway. I have not taken tags off anything (except the bras and tanks) yet; I wanted to get YLF feedback before finalizing these purchases!!

I started with a bra fitting at Nordstrom. I was pleased to come away with three bras for everyday use, one of which has detachable straps so it can be worn as a strapless bra. The bras that worked best for me were from the Wacoal Petites line. The fitting confirmed what I had suspected: I have been wearing too large a band size since reaching adulthood. In the past I have bought a 34 band size, but after reading more about how bras should fit, I suspected I would actually need a 32, which turned out to be the case. Now my bras stay put, since I have no cleavage to hold them in place! ;-)

For jeans, I went straight to the Lucky store, per Angie’s suggestion. The lowrise jeans turned out to be *too* low, so I ended up with a midrise, the Classic Rider. Here’s a photo: http://i285.photobucket.com/al.....oo/096.jpg . (Note: the funny wrinkly-looking area on the right leg is the sticker, which I haven’t taken off yet.) The kicker is that the jeans are two sizes smaller than jean sizes I have worn in the past. I’m wondering if some of my jeans problems (terrible waist gape in most styles, bagging at the crotch with some styles) are partly due to wearing my jeans too large? The inseam is a bit too long for me, so they’ll need to be altered, although the saleslady suggested just tucking the excess under in the back. Does anyone do that and have success with it? I am very leery of having these shortened since my last pair ended up too short. I will definitely be shopping for a different tailor! Also at the Lucky store, I did try on several other styles and washes of jeans, lighter weight summer pants, and clamdiggers, but found nothing else that worked.

At various retailers, I tried on a wide variety of white bottoms, from clamdiggers to walk shorts to capris that I thought I could shorten to walk shorts if need be. I just didn’t find the right fit and look…still lots of issues with waist gape, too-thin fabric, pocket show-through, etc., etc. So I didn’t come up with any summer bottoms. I’ll have to keep an eye out and limp along with my tired khaki walk shorts.

I also did not find the knee-length, A-line dark wash denim skirt I was hoping to purchase. Here’s one available online that might be a possibility: http://www.llbean.com/webapp/w.....38;feat=sr . Does anyone have other suggestions?

I had no luck with dresses. In fact, I tried only a few on. Most of the prints seemed too large for my height, or they were strapless, spaghetti straps, or halter tops, which I don’t do. So, as an alternative, I ended up purchasing two skirts, and, with the advice of Tanya to “shop for outfits, not pieces” and Angie’s advice to avoid skirt orphans, I did get tops for both.

The first skirt is a green/pink/black/cream floral print (the brand is Bernardo, via consignment), and is paired with the Banana Republic top Angie featured in her “Skirt Orphans” blog entry. I am concerned about how I look in the black with my fair skin. Feedback, please? Also, the shoes in the photo are the Naturalizer Verdum: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7375476/c/129707.html . They’re certainly not 8-hour shoes, but there is such a dearth of colorful, attractive flats available in extra wide that I dare not send them back. I actually wanted yellow, but they were sold out in my size. So now I have *one* pair of skirt shoes! Photo: http://i285.photobucket.com/al.....oo/097.jpg .

The second skirt is a turquoise and white print (the brand is Harold’s, via consignment). I ended up going with a sheer white blouse, also from BR, to go with the turquoise and white skirt. Photo: http://i285.photobucket.com/al.....oo/091.jpg . Obviously, the skirt is miles too long and will be shortened to my ideal knee length. After looking at this outfit, I wonder if I need more waist definition, perhaps in the form of a belt? Ana, I’m counting on you to suggest widths and colors! I had hoped to get a rich pink knit top that could work with both skirts, and found one that was perfect, except they didn’t have my size in stock at the store. It is available online, so I could order it: http://www.cache.com/cache/con.....2A70216664 . What do you think? The style of the top does wonders for my non-existent bust. Also pictured is one thing I purchased which wasn’t on my list: a new handbag to replace my tired, 5+-year-old summer bag. As I thought about what colors would best accessorize my frequently worn reds and rich pinks, I decided yellow would be perfect. Although yellow looks awful too close to my face, I felt I could get the current look and pop of color with a yellow handbag. Here is the one I purchased from Wilson Leather: http://www.wilsonsleather.com/.....age=search . It has really grown on me! :-)

I did not find any wrap tops. I only had one day to do all my shopping, and I certainly wasn’t able to do my list or the selection justice. Tanya, any recommendations that could be purchased online? I saw the ones you posted for Sarah, and I really like the first one.

I purchased tanks in red (surprise, surprise!!) and cobalt blue, as well as a couple of new white ones to replace the ratty leftovers from last year. I am considering tracking down a rich pink tank or cami to wear under the sheer white BR blouse with the turquoise skirt. Or would that look odd?

Whew! That’s a long post! I will appreciate all your feedback. It’s good to be back.
