We got to see grins like that New Year’s Eve when a random guy asked my son to take a video of him and his girlfriend. My son obliged, a little surprised that a photo wasn’t enough, then we were both totally surprised when the guy dropped to one knee and proposed. </p> <p>I totally agree that men and women (or neither) should get engagement rings. The custom stems from when women had few legal rights, so being “taken” was a big deal. Now it could be a simple expression of looking forward to the future together.
