Laura: great thread, thanks for the recommendations! It sounds like you have I have similar skin. I've been using the Ordinary's Niacinamide + Zinc serum, which I like I lot as a gentle chemical exfoliant (though is too strong for everyday use). I also swear by the Farmacy's Green Clean cleansing balm and it sounds like your new product is similar.

Stylefan, I have the same issue with mascara and just picked up LaRoche Posay and Dr Haruschka: they're both gentle and nice once set, but I find they take a longer time that most to dry and can smudge when first applied. I've also liked the Glossier's mascara formulation, which I did not find irritating: would have replaced, but am not in the US at the moment.

Carla, I use to be a big fan of Maybelline Great Lash in the pink and green kit. I will have to try it again. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I also am a fan of OPI but I like SPAritual which is a cruelty-free polish. It is vegan, etc. Beautiful colours and wears just as well as OPI.

@Style Fan - I’ve experimented with mascara, but frankly, Maybelline ‘Great Lash’ in the pink and green kit is the gold standard.

For manis, but mostly pedis, I’m totally devoted to a 3 part system of base coat, colour, and top coat. It keeps the nails from becoming stained, and preserves the mani or pedi. My go-to’s are:

Base Coat: Sally Hansen Double Duty

Colour: I’m an OPi devotee, but I’ve had good luck with Physician’s Formula, and Sally Hansen ‘Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear’. The last has been my triathlon go-to (Pucker Up) red for team Canada, and (Tickled Pink). Surprisingly good for a very inexpensive product - $2.99 at my grocery pharmacy!

Top coat: Sech Vite - no contest!

I have been looking for a mascara for a couple of years that did not irritate my eyes and came off easily. I use to wear Monsieur Big by Lancome and loved it but I found it too difficult to remove for everyday use. I save it for special occasions.
I have found a few mascaras that seem to work well for me. I have noticed a few things about mascaras. I like fluffy brushes that are a traditional shape. Some mascaras have strange brushes that don't work on my eye shape or lashes. I am looking at Benefit here. I know some people love Benefit.
The winners so far are LaRoche Posay mascara and Cover Girl Exhibitionist Uncensored.
I have also started using Benefit Roller Liner Eyeliner in Dark Brown. I put this on my top eyelid close to my eyelashes and then smudge it with a brush with dark brown eyeshadow.

Posts reviewing products like this are incredibly helpful! I find myself wasting a lot of items that end up not being right for me - always useful to have a preview. Thanks, Laura and hftc.

I've been wanting to do a new one of these for months, but I kept feeling like I needed to go back and review everything I've tried since I last posted, which is never going to happen. So, here's a 'done is better than perfect' quick list of stuff I've tried that comes to mind. Please add your own thoughts and reviews.

Good Molecules - new line available from Beautylish, kinda along the lines of The Ordinary. I tried the Niacinamide toner and the Instant Cleansing Balm, both of which I love. Before the latter I'd prefered cleansing oils but this balm has changed my mind. Both really good and a good value, and I want to try more from this line.

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Birthday Suit - Ulta now has some Colourpop stuff and this blush looked right down my alley. It's a great color for me, a rosy pink. I'm not sure what I think of the super shock formula, which is not a straight powder, but one with some creaminess/moisture to it, but not a cream either. It's not bad, but I don't see what it adds, either. Maybe in eyeshadow it's more of an advantage?

Elf Poreless Putty Primer - this is supposed to be a dupe to the Tatcha primer putty, which I haven't tried. I like it and it does seem to help blur some pores without causing breakouts, which most silicone primers do on me.

Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in 21 - so bummed this breaks me out, because the formula is nice and the color is pretty good. I'm still looking for an all-in-one sunscreen and tinted moisturizer for lazy days.

L'oreal Magic Root Cover Up - a new category for me (ah, getting older). This is a spray and I think it's fairly decent. It will stain your skin or hands if you get it on right away, but once it sets it stays put. It does make your hair feel a tad gunky, but if you only use it on your part and/or hairline it's not a big deal.

Revlon Candid Glow foundation - I just picked this up a couple days ago but so far I love it. The Revlon Candid original was the only success from my many tries in drugstore foundations last fall, but it was a bit heavy for me unless I cut it with moisturizer. This one's lighter in coverage and less matte. It doesn't stay for 12+ hours like the YouTube gurus seem to expect, but I'll take that tradeoff for a more natural look that requires less effort.
