Beanie and Mittens! I am so jealous I do not get to wear all of them! Down here all you need is a jacket! I just love winters, but can't really enjoy them!

Ack! Note to self: Must buy another beanie before winter!

I like the types of beanies that Janet posted--slouchy but kind of beret like. They seem to work well for my hair, which is fine and wavy, in that they don't flatten it out so bad. Last year I wore a cashmere Charter Club beanie that I got at Macy's. I really loved it! It was lightweight and refined looking but was also very warm.

I'm a beanie lover! I love hats in general. I'm wondering how I'm going to get my cashmere fix in AZ? I have a small head and wear both types, slouchy and tight. I have more problems with hats with brims and head size than beanies, as they like to slip down and make my ears stick straight out.

I ordered a cashmere one from Garnet Hill last year on your recommendation and I did enjoy it. I'll have to see if I wear it enough this year to warrant another purchase. (I also ordered bath towels from them and they are by far my favorite towels I have owned.)

I can't wear that style of beanie, but I do love to wear slouchy chunky knit berets with wide openings that can just rest over/in between my curls. Although with my current hair style it's not looking like I'll be able to wear them very well, which I need to sort out before winter hits! I love seeing you in yours :}

I have a few but they're really more soft, slouchy berets than beanies. I have them in black, cream, blue, and grey. Beanies tend to be a little too flat on the top of my head, and they can be too long as well so they seem to be slipping off the back of my head. A soft beret has just a little bit of pouf or volume so it doesn't give me hat hair. I have a tiny little pinhead, so anything too tight or fitted on my head looks really weird. (I look like a freak in my running cap, but oh well, gotta have something to keep the layered hair back since a ponytail alone does not do it!) So far, I've found lightweight knits in cashmere to be the most comfortable and versatile for me.

ETA: This link has the style of two of my hats (not in this color though). The cream one has a not-too-chunky cable knit pattern. http://www.overstock.com/Cloth.....oduct.html

By the way, you can sometimes block fitted beanies into submission. Try getting it wet and stretching it over a plate to dry. A plate is better than something like a ball because it doesn't stretch out the band. This is actually how you block berets but on a beanie it can sometimes serve to make the upper circumference wider/longer. If the knit is very stretchy or elastic, though, it probably won't work.

Totally with you there! I love my beanies! Last year I bought a super luxe cashmere one from The Travelwrap Company to sample their cashmere (and help me decide whether to splurge on a wrap). This one, only in blue. I steamed it to give it the slouch I love and it is perfect. The most luxurious, cushy, soft, non-itchy cashmere I've ever seen outside of vintage. Hooray for beanies!

I just bought a couple of these north face hats for DH and me. There's that giant logo again! I think I bought last year's versions which are bigger. But anyway, these are made of the same heavenly fleece as the jackets ( which have two giant logos). Although I have knit us hats in the past and plan to knit some more this year, these particular hats are not to be believed in terms of softness.

Viva, I have the same problem - that's why the smaller, clingier beanies don't work for me. I just end up looking like a pinhead. The best is a wide border and chunky but not overly long crown. These ones at Nordie's are great.

I am always on the lookout for a good beanie. Frankly I don't like to wear overly warm coats -- a good hat and scarf are much more central to feeling warm. My ears!!! It's a problem with short hair.

My problem is that my head is very small. And some hats make my head look EVEN SMALLER. I think the chunky-ness factor is key. I may try the one you posted, Una. Looks perfect!

That actually doesn't sound like all that many criteria to me!

I have a number of beanies (I'm a knitter, I live where we have winter, how can I not?), but this year I'm excited to break out my new hat with a brim, and another one that's more of a bucket shape. (I find my face too round for beanies to be flattering, although slouch definitely helps.) And having my hair longer now will help hats be more flattering, too. I don't like it when all my hair disappears under the hat.

Hmm, I generally don't like the way I look in hats. I've never tried a beanie though. I wish I looked good in hats because I don't like to do my hair on the weekends and it's too short to stick in a ponytail. Hats would be a good solution.

Winter is here, and that means I can wear my beanie collection! A beanie keeps me warm and keeps snow off my head, plus stops my hair from blowing into my face and glasses in snowy wind.

I have a surprising number of criteria for beanies. They must be a flattering color, chunky, and slouchy. They can't be itchy or heavy but need to still be warm. They have to fit without requiring readjustment and still have enough room to not cause horrible hat-head.

Up until now, I've loved the cashmere ones from Garnet Hill, but last year I got one from Nordstrom that I adore, and the price is reasonable. I am getting two more of them, as I wear these daily both for function and style. I actually wear them year round when weather permits - my haircut is actually designed by me to look reasonably good in a beanie.

Any other beanie lovers here?
