Rachylou, that’s funny!

I took my first call the other night. Probably quite serendipitous, because apparently people get them quite rarely. I had just placed my order for dinner and asked for an ice pack for my leg when my phone started making noises. Picking it up to see what that was, I accidentally connected the call. Suddenly I was speaking with a guy in India, trying to find an application deadline on a website. My phone was about to die, so I got his email and sent him the info after the phone and I both had renewed energy. He actually wrote back. New pen pal? I appreciate him being so cool with less than ideal “customer service”.

Oh that’s quite cool. I imagine it’s good practice for seeing for the sighted. There are many things one never considers.

On a tangent, I saw a sign that said ‘menus were available for the blind in Braille.’ I realise that actually is a useful sign, but it’s not useful directly so it strikes odd…

I’m all excited about this app I just heard about on IG & downloaded in the App Store. It’s called Be My Eyes. There are over 300k blind people and nearly 4.8 mil volunteers. When one of the blind people needs help with a little thing, like figuring out which carton is the almond milk or which top is the one they want, they use the app. It notifies multiple volunteers, and the first person to pick up the call uses video transmitted to them (1-way video, 2-way audio) to help the person complete the task. I signed up for English & German. Haven’t taken my first call yet.

NB there is another app with this name which has you help Nestle move its products.
