I love my knee high boots, but only wear them with jeans or bare-legged. I'm not a "nude fishnet" gal, so I haven't figured out how to wear them with skirts and tights. I'm definitely in the market for some more lighter colored booties. You rock those DV's, and I love my Fryes, but I need some that are not as "western" feeling to wear with trousers - Angie's new snakeskin booties from NAS are amazing on her, but they were too "out there" for me (I lack the confidence to pull something like them off). So, where to turn now? I'm definitely looking and I'll let you know what I find.</p> <p>Shiny, I'm happy to tell you! I used masking tape to mask off all of the areas that I didn't want to dye, including the sole of the shoe. I used Tarrago dye and followed their directions - I had to use several coats, and I realized a bit too late that the darker color, especially, "separated" very quickly, so I had to redo some coats when I hadn't mixed the dye sufficiently well and got streaks. The trickiest part was where the black leather overlapped the leather I was dyeing off-white. It was very hard to not get white dye on the very edge of the leather, and I did in fact get some dye on it - I cheated and covered up the white dye with a black permanent marker that had a fairly fine tip so I had some control. I also had a bit of bleeding of dye under the masking tape onto the heel/sole, which I was able to scrape off with a fingernail while it was still soft and touch up with the black marker. So, if you look really closely, they're not perfect, but, all in all, I was pleased with the results.
