What good feedback! Kristen - thank you for mentioning the accessories because I would have forgotten some of those. I'll be shopping around this week for something appropriate so I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Ouch ... I wouldn't go at all. Or, if not going is not an option, I would bring a tank top and a long beach sarong, and stay covered at all times.

We used to have this biannual thing in my company, where we all together went to Eilat (the Red Sea resort) with our families for a long weekend (fortunately, it was canceled because of the crisis). So, when you are there with the kids, not getting into the pool is not an option. I still shudder On the other hand, since everybody was there with the family, nobody actually paid any attention to the coworkers, because everybody was too busy chasing his own kids. In this situation, however, I would just stay with a tank top and a sarong.

You are very brave I agree that a closed enough one-piece (that is, no plunging neckline) and a sarong is the best option if you really have to attend.

Honestly, I just would not do it. I would go to the conference, if it was required, but I would not go near the pool. The thought of my former boss in a Speedo? Dear God. Just ... no.

Carrie, I like the idea of a one piece or tankini. You can get tankinis that are long enough with bottoms that come high enough to look like a one piece. (that is what I used.) Love the idea of a sarong. I have them in may colors and they work PERFECT. They hide the upper thigh and look like you are wearing a tank and skirt, just as you say. When you go in the water it is easy to slip off the sarong just as you go in and pop it back on when you get out and voila, you are back in a skirt. I actually prefer this to a cover up dress because I think the movement of pulling the sundress over your head is more alluring than untying the sarong. Sarongs come in different colors so you can pick one that goes with your bathing suit.

That link is a terrific resource, thank you!

I too am going to a resort for a work conference -- two of my super-users (aka internal clients) and the vendor will be there. There will be swimming during our down time, as there was last year; I've been considering getting a bikini (my first ever!) but for the times when I know I'll be with the others, I'll definitely have a one-piece. The bikini will be for when I am on vacation with my family in August. :)

The other thing I realized I needed after last year were all the accessories: flip-flops, casual tote bag, and a cover-up. I swim at home for exercise, not lounging around, so I didn't have any of that. I'm stocking up this time!

Thank you! I did review Angie's post and I think I'm going to go with a one piece and some sort of sarong or cover-up. I was thinking that a good one piece and a sarong might look enough like a tank top and skirt that I won't think about what I'm wearing all day. I agree that I do not want people to think of me in my bathing suit every time they see me.

Unfortunately not going is not an option. I'm very fair skinned, so at least if anyone wonders why I'm so covered-up I can blame it on that!

Since it's a trip to the beach, I guess beachwear in general would be fine and it depends on what *you* feel comfortable in. However, Shiny makes a good point and with that in mind I'd say a one-piece would be the better option.

Have you read Angie's posts about swimwear?
http://youlookfab.com/category/swimwear/

Oh dear, I would personally make any excuse necessary to get out of such a trip! LOL.

I recommend a one-piece, or at most, a tankini that is long enough it doesn't show any midriff. I would select the most conservative suit you can find (high neck, with padding for coverage, dark color), and pick a good cover-up to go with it - and wear the cover-up as much as possible. That way you're "fitting in" and not being a killjoy, but also keeping it modest.

The question you need to ask yourself is this: do I want the vision of myself in a bikini or with bathing suit cleavage hanging out, forever etched on the eyeballs of my colleagues?

You know, I was one of the people that said a hint of cleavage is okay in the office (especially since if you are larger chested, as it often can't be avoidable), so I am really not all that modest, but this is a different story altogether, in my opinion. I just don't want my colleagues having a picture in their mind of me wearing a bathing suit, period. Even a modest tank suit. I'm pretty picky about what I wear for workout gear at work too (we have an onsite gym).

I can remember one time my boss suggesting we have an off-site at the beach; we quickly nixed that idea. Then there were the office parties at the CEO's house - he had a pool. That was more workable because going in the pool was completely optional. The men all dived in; not a single woman brought her suit.

I am going on a trip with my company to the beach and I need to find a work-appropriate bathing suit. Do you think a two-piece is okay or should I look for a one piece?
