Ket--these are the things I don't think of--nude hosiery for winter "bare" look. I think everyone gave up on hosiery for a long time. In my climate, which is often in the 40s in the winter, that would be totally appropriate with ankle jeans.
Angie--wow, thanks for showing me all those shoes. The boots, esp. flat, really get my wheels turning. I can see how they look great with those jeans, and yet my instinct would be to put them with like, a knee-high heeled boot.
RobinF--yes, maybe they really are easier with footwear than I thought. I suppose it depends how well-made the jeans are in the first place.

Those jeans look like a great way to try the trend. I think I would prefer them at ankle length for me and just about any boot or shoe would work.

Suz--thanks for the ideas. They are very inspired, and I particularly like the more moto winter boot look. Seems modern and loose.
Star--a few people have mentioned a chunky loafer to me as well. I think that's a good idea.
Roberta--those boots will look good with those jeans. Gives it a sort of menswear/working artist vibe.
Dee--love that idea with the socks. Instead of buying 3 new pairs of boots, I could get 8 pairs of tall black socks to wear with the boots I already have.

Carol, I've been wearing barrel jeans for four years, and wear every one of my pairs of shoes with them - all dainty and flat or very low heeled! I walk a lot.

I sometimes wear my chunkier oxfords with them - but not often.

Here are my barrel jeans, and the shoes I wear with them:

I'm with everyone else: I would close the gap with a higher shaft boot or show bare skin (Or wear nude hosiery for warmth but "bare skin" look.) Not sure if that helps??

I have eschewed slip-on mules etc for the health of my feet and pelvic floor. However, I would be very tempted to pair barrel jeans with a slip-on mule! Impractical for winter, but to me, it feels glamorous. And helps elongate the leg line.

I'm very excited to see what you wear with these! I want to try barrel jeans but haven't yet found any in a size or cut that work for me. So I'm living vicariously through you, Suz, and others!

Yes I’m nodding along with the suggestions Suz and Roberta provided, Barrel jeans come in a variety of lengths and so you’ll need to figure out how to close the gap for colder days. Beyond higher shaft boots, I like the idea also of simply matching the colour of the sock to your footwear, dark sock with a dark shoe tends to read like a boot or just have fun with patterns socks as Suz suggested. I find footwear for barrel jeans easy when its warm, slides, slip-ons, ballet flats or Mary Janes all work great.

Nodding with Roberta -- the boots I will choose have taller shafts, so they close the gap. I like bare skin or a closed gap. Of course when you sit down in a wider legged jean, the bottom rises -- but that's what fun socks are for.

I'm not there yet (still too hot in Chicagoland), and it might be a challenge to keep my ankles warm in cold weather. I will try my taller Sorel boots, and maybe my Docs.

I also think it depends on how long your jeans are on you - mine are on the shorter side. Those VERY CUTE Lands' End jeans are only a 27" inseam, which would be quite short on me.

My feeling is that lower cut ankle boots will make a narrow ankle gap, and I won't like the look on me. Put another way, I will prefer a low cut shoe like a sneaker, so the gap looks intentional, or a taller boot entirely.

Unfortunately I cannot open the link from the EU but I too am warming up to the idea of barrel jeans for myself. Maybe a chunky loafer?

Lisa--huh, that's a fun look. I love how you paired it with a very statement-making Timberland-style boot. I think it looked good. I can't believe we are already starting to "fusion" barrel jeans--here, barrel/cargo.

I plan to wear my barrel jeans with these boots and booties, below, in the cooler weather. In warmer temps I have tended to wear with my oxfords or sneakers and no-show socks, or a few times with my Mary Janes. I like the bit of skin visible when it's possible to wear that way.

I tried barrel leg jeans recently with a flat bootie in this post. I liked this look for fall/winter and the only reason I didn't keep the barrel jeans was because it was duplicating the color of the wide leg jeans.

I feel like six months to a year ago was when barrel jeans began gaining momentum. I am just now getting used to the idea that there is a pluralism of jeans today as big as the Marvel universe.

These looked fantastic in the catalog--here I feel they just look okay--perhaps this version looks a little fussy. But I am thinking of getting them.

If you were going to bring these into fall/winter, what socks/hosiery/footwear would you be using? Especially more flat or very low-heel, proper for a person on their feet all day.

https://www.landsend.com/produ...../id_386878
