We just got back from Barcelona. It was an amazing trip, full of great sights and incredibly yummy food.
Sights: We did Parc Guell and Sagrada Famila on Sunday. We started with the Park and had an excellent guided tour, which introduced us to Gaudi's work. It allowed us to appreciate the audio tour at SF bettter, too. Both are fantastic! We didn't get a chance to go up the towers, the tickets were sold out. When hubby was at his conference, I visited Casa Mila, Casa Battlo and the Picasso museum by myself. I really enjoyed Casa Battlo, a friend recommended it at the last minute, and I am really glad I decided to drop in. I prefer it to Casa Mila. The Picasso museum was fantastic, especially the Las Meninas series. There was also a temporary exhibition on the friendship of Picasso and Paul Eluard. It was quite political in nature, and I really liked it.
Food: We didn't really plan those ahead of time, it was really easy to find a good spot when we felt tired and hungry. We just quickly checked the restaurants' scores on google maps, and walked in. Excellent tapas, paella, sangria, cocktails, paestries, churros! yum yum yum!
It was a fantastic trip all around. I will add some pictures.
Thank you for your recommendations.

Adding to already fabulous recommendations. We did a chocolate tour several years ago. Started at the chocolate museum, and went to 2-3 other spots ending at Bubo, which was incredible, We also rented Vespas and did a several hour tour which included Park Guell. Barceloneta has great people watching and several fun restaurants.

And yes make sure to visit La Sagrada - my favorite of all time.

Unless you’re afraid of heights or claustrophobic, I would do the towers. We did the Nativity Towers, because I read that there’s less construction on that side because they’re the older ones. They have city views, the other side has sea views.

The reason I say don’t do it if your claustrophobic is because it’s very narrow, plus you have to go all the way down this very narrow spiral staircase (you go up in an elevator). It’s perfectly safe but it’s tight, and a lot of steps. The second pic is my husband on the staircase.

Go up the towers! There’s no guarantee that the view will be clear but when will you be there next? We had a great free walking tour (it’s actually called that “free walking tours Barcelona” — it’s free but do tip!) Also loved taking the Cable Car (MontJuic). Have fun!!

Bella, here's the other resto -- it was fabulous! http://llamber.com/en/

I didn't go up the towers because Mr. Suz and I lost each other and I had no phone to be able to locate him -- I was scared to go up and lose him even longer in the crowds. Long story. But I WOULD go up next time.

Great recommendations already. Love Barcelona. A favorite delicious dinner place is Sensi Bistro. Warm hospitality, delicious food and not far from the cathedral. Cal Pep was a fun, super casual lunch place. When I did the SF Towers the view from the top was partially obscured due to construction and the vista didn’t seem to catch the prettiest side of the city. That was a few years ago though, so getting a current read on it is worthwhile. Buy tickets to the SF ahead to avoid lines. Agree the Miro Museum is beautiful and we also loved the somewhat nearby Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. Great permanent collection. Have fun.

I am sure I did that the last time, but I can't remember if it was worth it.

Ooh, fun! I am nodding along with Diana's recommendations -- I loved the Picasso museum and seeing the development (even though I am not in general a Picasso fan).

We usually spend a lot of time walking and eating in new cities and that's what we did in Barcelona. We went to flamenco and music performances in Granada but not there.

The Miro museum is amazing -- total total love -- and it tends not to be as busy (at least it wasn't when we were there). The Gaudi is always busy, but also fascinating. We went to Sagrada Familia but not the other stuff. Again, get tickets online -- makes your life so much easier!

Some food spots we enjoyed: Blai Tonight (We walked there after our visit to the Miro museum -- not fancy but really fun for a beer and tapas.)

This fish place (again, not fancy, but fun fun fun) is right by the Sagrada Familia: La Paradeta Sagrada Familia. Lineups out the door and cafeteria style but really great food and inexpensive wine.

Casa Rafols -- so, so good! There is a sister restaurant that gets even more rave reviews and we went to that one, too -- but this is much, much better. Just not as touristic-picturesqe.

There's another, more upscale one the name of which I've forgotten -- asking Mr. Suz.

I don't have pics to share because my phone was stolen in Granada --alas!

We loved the Bario Gotico (Gothic Quarter), and eating at El Quatre Gatos (Picasso and Gaudi hung out there). Barcelona is wonderful! Have a lovely trip.

Some photos... (which are all out of order, sorry.)

#2 is the main concert hall at the Palau de Musica. We really regret not going to a concert here. At the tour, they said the best concerts to go to are the afternoon ones, because the light in the hall is amazing.

#4 is from the roof of Casa Mila.

3&5 are from the Sagrada Familia.

#9 is from the roof of the cathedral.

The rest are random things we ate!

I was just there 2 weeks ago! We had the best time. I honestly think winter is such a good time to go to Barcelona as long as you don't need to go to the beach, it's less crowded and the weather is still very pleasant. It's a great city to just wander around in.

Here is a (not comprehensive but very long nevertheless) list of things we enjoyed.

The Picasso museum was great. They have a lot of his earlier stuff, and it was cool to see how his style evolved. There's also a series of 60 (I think) different paintings inspired by a single Velazquez painting that are really cool.

We did all the big Gaudi buildings (Casa Mila/La Pedrera, Casa Battlo, the Sagrada Familia of course, and Parc Guell) while we were there, because we love looking at cool architecture. Any one of them would be worth a visit if you like that sort of thing. I think the Sagrada Familia is obviously the most impressive, Casa Mila is great if you want to learn about Gaudi. They all come with pretty comprehensive audio tour guides.

If you are at all into music, you might want to try to go to a concert at the Palau de Musica Catalana. Even if you're not, you can take a tour in the mornings, the building is absolutely gorgeous.: https://www.palaumusica.cat/en.....BpyzCh1JJA

Tickets for almost everything are cheaper online than in person, and you don't have to wait in line if you just buy them on your phone.

Definitely go to this bakery/sweet shop by the cathedral: https://www.pastisserialacolmena.com/en/

This place has really amazing, fresh seafood (see picture below): https://www.instagram.com/kioskouniversal/ It is in the Mercado de la Boqueria, the big market in the Gothic Quarter, which is fun but can be a bit too touristy sometimes. Still, it's really fun to walk around the market, buy some fancy ham and fruits, etc.

Super nice pastry shop with delicious croissants: https://www.hofmann-bcn.com/en/patisserie

If you're into gin, there are amazing gin bars in Barcelona. We liked this one a lot: http://www.cactusbar.cat

And there are of course millions of places to get tapas and pinxos in the evening. Honestly you could just walk down some of the streets in El Born or the Gothic Quarter and walk into one that looks busy and it'll probably be great.

This tapas place is super cute (but tiny, so getting a table might be difficult), and the food is different than most of the others: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Re....._Catalonia.

We are going to Barcelona this weekend. I've been there once before, and I am now realizing that it was more than 20 years ago! I am sure they managed to build even more of the Sagrada Familia now!
I did a quick search and I saw that some of you have been there recently (Suz!). Do you have any recommendations for things to do and places to eat? We already have a hotel. I will be spending 1.5 days on my own since hubby will be at a conference. I am hoping to do Miro museum and maybe the Picasso museums on those days, things my 19 year old silly self did not have inclination or money to do. :)
I would particularly appreciate some itineraries, especially for Sunday.
Thanks!
