Anna, no worries about looking like the woman you're talking about!

I think you look great in bangs. I like the idea of not-too-heavy wispier or side-swept bangs on you, although I understand the difficulty with a cowlick as I have one too, and it does add to the challenge.

Jonesy, you are too funny Don't worry--I know what you meant and thanks for the compliment. When I got a trim a couple weeks ago my hairdresser made a really extreme version of the blunt, straight bang (they are angled on the sides though) and wavy rest of the hair that looked, um, editorial, but not me. I feel much more comfortable when I style all of it with a little softness. Having said all that, I guess I see Anna's POV, because I nevertheless hang onto these bangs for their currentness even though I don't even think it's the best look on me. Well heck, and it's just hair anyway. Okay, Anna, do as I say, not as I do.

Anna, I really like how your hair is looking lately! The soft waves and fringe and very flattering and have a definite style that plays well with your outfits. I think it's a nice complement to your recent romantic-edgy direction.

I think blunt bangs can be challenging, not only from a maintenance standpoint for wavy hair, but also in terms of flattery for many face shapes and features. I think you can pull them off well, Anna, but I'm not sure I'm feeling the blunt look with your recent style direction -- I like how your waves and fringe have an air of ease and authenticity, like you're embracing what your hair does naturally.

An aside: I was admiring Krysten Ritter's bangs on Project Runway this week and realizing how well they work -- along with the rest of her hairstyle -- with her face. At the same time, I'm always distracted by the picture on the wall of the previous PR winners, and how Leanne's heavy bangs just seem to obscure her delicate features.

I can't access the InStyle image on an iPad, but I have been liking the softer look of your hair lately, so I wouldn't change the fringe. I am currently wearing my hair quite wavy like yours but with a straight fringe. My hairdresser suggested this change, I imagine because she is very trend-concious. I am actually not that crazy about it, but keep it for now just for the variety. My face is long and narrow, so it could never look round like Jonesy mentioned. Also I don't flat iron the fringe super straight but just blow it dry so that it is straightish but with movement. I agree with Jonesy that there are nevertheless not too many faces where this kind of fringe is a truly flattering look, and I don't count myself among them either. It's more of a statementy thing in my opinion than a pretty thing.

Yeah, I like the direction you are thinking with the InStyle photo and also the image that Jonsey posted. I know you've played with product - do you have anything like a light pomade or a spray wax where you can create some piecy/chunky definition?

I love bangs with your current hair style and hope you can find a way to wear them that you enjoy.

Part of my problem is some massive cowlicks it has trouble going side swept.. How about Jessica Biel piecer bangs.

Top right option

I like a longer, side-swept bang (see Rachel McAdams, below--best pic I could find, not that you are going for her particular look or anything!) for you and I also think you look absolutely fab with your hair pulled back. I don't care for blunt bangs with wavy hair--somehow it makes faces appear rounder and looks sort of juvenile, IMHO. I think if hair is wavy and has lots of movement, I like the bangs to echo that same movement. So I guess I would vote for choppy side-swept if you can find the right product and routine, or grow them out.

I love your current haircut. I know that bangs can be a pain, for sure, but they definitely look good on you. I agree that no one is going to think you are an 80s/90s out of style person. You are way too stylish and cool for that!

Keep your fringe Anna. It's very flattering. If you have to keep trying out product u till you find the right one. My fringe drives me crazy too as I never know from one day to the next what it's going to do. Some days I wear it forward as a proper fringe, other days I sweep it to the side but I know that it's more flattering than growing it out:)

I've been having a bangs crisis this year as well. Got them short and choppy in late Feb. Have alternately left them alone and cut them myself over the last 5 months. Just last week went for more blending while trying to grow them. It's a pain. I am going for long enough to tuck behind the ears but getting there is torture.
Let us know what you decide.

So visiting my father for round #2 of sedation dental surgery. They said it would be the last one.
I picked up a slew of magazines for my Dad to read while he's recovering. I also got the August InStyle and Vogue. August issues are normally light on anything good. The InStyle had more than one section on blunt bangs for fall. My side swept bangs look goo approximately 50% of the time. I'm also considering growing them out completely. My next hair appointment is not till late August. I recently saw a woman at tow separate parties with similar hair to mine with long wavy/curly hair and side swept bangs. It looked very late 80's early 90's, and her frosty pink lipstick did not help. I do not want to look like her.
Should I go back to blunt bangs, grow them out? Try more waxes and pomades to keep the side swept modern?
Also my dad did not like my sequin short shorts I wore today and even felt like he had to explain my outfit to the receptionist at the Periodontist's office. Last weekend I wore the same shorts in Portland and got lots of compliments. Guess I am big city. LOL.
