Hi Jean Gray,
Here's a picture of the banded top I was wondering about. I pulled it down and layered a blouse underneath. I also tried it with my white button down, with the cuffs folded back like Kari suggested. Both days it seemed to work best when I tucked the shirt underneath in.

Could you post pics of your layering? I tried layering my banded top over my new blouse the other day and I wasn't sure about it. I'd like to see some examples! Thanks!

This is a knit piece so I actually layered under it and liked it better. I tried it with my new white button down shirt. It also works with a tank top underneath.

Banded tops can finish both in high and low places on the body. It really depends on the style and drape of the fabric. Are you layering over the top?

Hi All, thanks so much for your thoughtful suggestions. I actually tried layering the banded top and it seems to work better for me. I think my eye had to get used to an undefined waistline.

I think that it is very difficult to tell except with pictures. A short waist on one body will be different than the next. I know what a pain it is sometimes to post but you will get a very accurate answer, especially when Angie returns.

I love banded tops! Having a short waist that occasionally has curves, I pull the hem of the banded top halfway down my butt, stopping when it starts to slope downward, and then pull and tuck the front and back until it flows with a ripple effect.

I then adjust my neckline, so the seams of the shoulderline fall smoothly, and that the seams of the arms follow to the edge of my elbows. It usually results in a nice, drapey effect that reveals your shape. Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat as you, so I hope you'll let us know if you figure out the magic spot! My hips are quite wide, so I feel like if the band hits around the hips then it stretches too far and makes me look huge and blocky - but if the band hits higher, it tends to migrate far up to my natural waist & is then too short and blousey.

Does anyone know at what point the banded waist should hit? I have been trying this style, but I can't figure out where the band should be placed. I have a short waist so these seem really long, are they supposed to be pulled straight down or sort of bloused over the band??

I have a very fine guage knit that comes all the way down past my hips if I pull it down. The midsection is also somewhat loose.

Thanks in advance
