Sveta, both those outfits are glorious! I see what you mean about drape. I think part of it is that is see a lot of people wearing cheap knit ones with a smaller difference between the band and the fabric above it. This allows said knit to cling, and boom! Muffin top. With nice ones like yours, the drape is smoother and cleaner.

I agree with Sveta -- it depends on the drape, the band size, and where the band sits on the body.

I think a good drape is the key. I like them in silk or fine knit which collapse against the body and do not create bulk.
And I was one of those women who hated banded tops and never wore them before! Now I adore my silk banded tops

Hmmm. I think I have one of these type blouses. I hadn't thought about it the way you described it but it makes sense. I usually put a black blazer over the blouse. The v-line of blazer seems to hide any muffin effects.

I have a question about shirts that have a band around the bottom edge. I've seen Angie feature them a number of times and they look great. Here's the issue: tons of people in my area wear this style, and it almost never seems to look good. I don't think it's a question of my eye adjusting, because I like the look on the blog, on models, etc... But when I see it on people in general, the band and the fabric flaring out above it always highlight that persons muffin top if they have even a tiny hint of one. The contrast between the tight band and the wider shirt above add a visual tire. It's true, though, that I see this most on those who fill out the space above the band, so, the already muffin-toppy. But it happens a little even on my slimmer friends. Only the most slender people I know seem to wear this style of shirt well. How do you style them to avoid The Muffin Shirt?
