Retail math for the general public truly qualifies as it's own branch of math and therefore, required learning: algebra, geometry, accounting, trigonometry, statistics, retail math.

So a $100 dollar jacket you thought you was getting 60% off seems like it would have been $40 dollars. But it's actually $48.60. Could have used that extra 8.50 on a cute pair of Mossimo jeans on the clearance rack at Target to go with that RP jacket.

It can get confusing! I just figure the first discount and any other discounts a happy bonus. And now that I know there is an extra bonus I need to make time to get to the store tomorrow!

I think I was aware of BR sales math but keep forgetting.
There’s 40% off store- wide “ plus 10% more off this weekend and extra 10% if on your BR card.”

So, in my head I want to think “ 60% off “ ( a full- price item), but it’s 40% off , then 10% off the discounted price, then 10% off THAT new total.

Not complaining ( well, maybe a little!) but I like to figure in my head before going to checkout, so then get surprised by the total ( is it moi? did you forget to give me the discount ?) so for this I’ll have to use my calculator!

Oh, the slips and snares of Retail!
