Back in the day, salary.com had fairly good info by geographical area & was free & easy to use. Have no idea if it's still worth using....

Thanks for both of these replies. It looks like this particular position is not going to happen.

Marley - their budget is quite small, and the salary they are offering is more appropriate for a young, entry level candidate. (Someone with no real life, grown-up bills like a mortgage, retirement concerns, etc.) I know this is the "new economic reality" and contributions are down for nonprofits in general, so it's tricky all around. Thanks for the input!

Tarzy - does you husband know the non-profit's annual budget? That would help narrow it down. There is quite a range of non-profits out there, but if you know what their budget is, then you can get an idea.

ETA: Also, is this a pure Marketing job or does it involve Fund-Raising as well? Is there a Marketing Dept.? - a Fund-Raising Dept? How many administrative staff? and who (what postition) would he be reporting to? Also, how is the non-profit funded? private donations/grants? government funds?

In DC, I think 80-100k would be reasonable. Less or more would be possible depending on the organization. Salaries really do vary at non-profits. DC offices are usually headquarters, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Good luck! Sounds like a good opportunity.

Would anyone know some basic, ballpark figures for a Marketing Director position at a small nonprofit in Los Angeles or a comparable major (expensive) city?

My husband is transitioning careers into media marketing & analytics. (He has a certificate in web analytics.) He's spent the past two years doing volunteer consulting work for several nonprofits to get hands-on experience (while also working at his own company full-time). One of the local chapters of a nonprofit he's been consulting with has an opening for a full-time marketing director, and they've asked him what he's looking for in compensation. We've done some basic research on sites like Glass Door, but it's hard to get actual salary figures at a comparable company.

This is a small local chapter of a larger, very respected nationwide organization that helps build housing for families in need.

Any ideas how can we go about finding this information? Thanks so much for any advice!
