Haha I hear you - no need to stand on the other side of the room! Just enough so that we can see your whole outfit at an angle that doesn't distort the proportions. I find that cropping my photos before posting also helps in that regard - when they aren't full of empty space to the sides, others can see the details better because the cropping helps to 'zoom in' to the photo, if that makes sense.

No worries, Zaeobi. I am admittedly terrible at the photos. I am also used to taking photos in my old tiny bathroom where I couldn’t back up, and I always assume you can’t see details when I’m farther back. :p

I see everyone has already commented extensively on both the jeans & the top, so I have a request to make that's perhaps a little different but I hope you'll take it in good faith

Would it be possible to take your photos a little further back, &/ or with the camera a little more straight at eye level? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the current camera angle is kinda looking 'down' on you, which makes it a little difficult to assess the fit of your outfit (see the bottom of the mirror to get an idea of what I mean).

Again, hope it's ok to point that out - & I hope I didn't offend! Of course if you don't see it or it doesn't bother you, then don't feel obligated to change anything in your photos - it's just a suggestion

Ooooh Preppy Pear, that’s interesting. I do have to consider that they are not a true balloon on me, but that may be OK. I’ll wear them a bit this week before I bring them to the UPS drop off. They didn’t pinch, even if the fit is not spot on, so that’s a good sign that maybe they will settle. They’d have gone back already if they pinched.

Christina, I have those jeans and they did stretch out, including the tummy area/button fly front. You might want to wear them around the house a bit and see if they loosen up. I was surprised at how much they stretched, since they are only 1% elastane or something like that. Mine are probably JFE, but so comfortable and I’m a fan of the look.
I think that you look really cute and that top is great!

Jenni - haha, I’ll change it. I’m 41. Still young but my mother did start menopause around this age.

suntiger - good thought. They are pretty floppy. I think they would go under my chore jacket okay, though.

Thanks, Suz! I will think about whether I want to try those. The cycle of ordering and returning pants and jeans by mail can be tiring too, so I may just hold off till I see what’s offered along these lines in the fall.

Christina, I got the M&S ones. They are snug in the belly area so you might need to size up in them if you try. But we often can wear similar styles / from same company so I thought I'd let you know. The length on these are good (for 5'4" ish me). They aren't as exaggerated a balloon as Angie's on her, but my thighs are bigger than hers, proportionately.

Top is great, and the jeans---I just wouldn't tuck with them- if comfortably enough-and still wanted. I can see they fit good(in the hips) but don't "look" that good there especially with the tucks or the half tucks! That's all my 2 cents- but you probably can find some better, too.

Thanks everyone! I think k they’re not perfect and will defiantly return. They’re not awful either.

Unfortunately, Gap jeans and pants never seem to work on me, even if I size up. The wrong shape for my body or something. I don’t really need jeans anyway, just was keen to try to a new style.

The top can stay. I think they didn’t work with those jeans at all, which initially made me unsure.

I have a rule that when it comes to jeans they must be super comfortable. This is because I have some jeans that are super comfy and will always revert to those when wearing jeans. It is the same for shoes. I have learnt the hard way... my vote is return for the jeans.

The top is great and definitely boho lite. Super cute with denim or white shorts.

The top is absolutely flattering!

I am not a fan of this style of jeans on any shape I've seen it on, so I am not an objective critic. In general, and I'm still learning this hard lesson, if there are any caveats (not stretchy enough, a little too high waisted, etc.) - I will ultimately not end up reaching for the item, over something that is stretchy enough or not so high waisted. I vote return and keep looking for something fresh in style that is also comfortable.

I like the blouse on you and I think you can style it in a modern way, esp. for summer. I have a "shadow" boho summer vibe too!

The jeans, I think you need a little more width through the hips. Your hips have a nice round shape from your waist, and these are very straight in the hip. I don't mind the button fly, and the legs look good, and I think you can pull of the rise. If they just had a curvy fit through the hip I think they'd be winners.

ETA, to try to explain what I mean, I think perhaps you do need something shorter in the rise, and with more of a tapered waist, but I like the width of the leg and the shape of the leg here, so I think they are close. I know you said you like the fit in the hip, I understand that, I don't think it doesn't "fit" you...it's just that the cut of the hip could be better for your shape, I think.

I like the top on you and think it is flattering on your shoulders and arms. A lower rise pant or skirt would do it better justice IMO , I think the width of the sleeves need a bit more length on the torso.
Regarding the jeans, having the Portuguese hips myself I understand the temptation because they do fit well on the hips. But I think you can do better.

I have tried the GAP cheeky Straight in Finds and(although different leg shape) I find the fit comfortable.

Thanks all! The jeans might be a pass. I think I am just unsure how some thing that’s kind of fitted should fit me anymore, after a year-plus of pandemic. But unsure usually means a no. I know Marks & Spencer make some similar jeans. I could give those a try.

Cat - Madewell is very hit and miss. They do make some of my best-fitting jeans though! So it’s always worth a look for me despite them being a pain with sizing.

Tried the blouse with the pants I happened to be wearing. It’s not my first choice of styling but, on this second look, the sleeves don’t bother me. That’s why I do take a second look! This might be useful as some thing that will look nice enough on Zoom, but that I can wear when it’s very hot—it’s very lightweight. I’m leaning towards keeping.

I did notice pulling at the buttons right away but didn’t want to comment on that. Some people are OK with it and it is truly not a big deal. Especially, if you plan to wear jeans with untucked tops. Although, if this is something you are noticing too, it might bother you more later.
I love the top - boho light, fresh and summery, wonderful color on you. I imagine it with white shorts or a skirt. Or red :)

I like both, the jeans and the top on you. The button fly of the jeans makes it a little more noticeable but I find it is due to the buttons, I still like them on you and will check them out if they go on sale

Oh, I feel you on the perimenopausal issues. I had a rough time for a while and the true cause turned out to be fibroids. A hysterectomy ended up being the solution, and I have zero regrets! Sending good vibes.

I like a lot of Madewell things, but have not had the best luck with their jeans, the wash I tried didn’t look as good in person as I had hoped. Maybe move onto another brand?

La Ped - I am going to try the blouse with some other stuff - shorts for now. My blue bootcuts both need a zipper repair! (Both Wit & Wisdom so maybe not a coincidence.) I hear you and Rachy on it being less of a balloon than it could be.

My take is that I mostly like the fit on the hips. Otherwise, I have no investment in keeping them or not, and am happy to look for a more appropriate pair. I often have to try a few iterations of a style of pants before I find the right pair.
