What has worked for me with flats that were a little loose (I have a very narrow foot) is to get a basic cut-to-size insole and also put in heel snugs like Maya mentioned.

Happylife, have you tried a narrower shoe in your size rather than go down a size? Gel inserts that fit in the bottom of your shoe may also work. My left foot is a bit bigger than my right, so sometimes I need something like this in my right shoe.

You might also try a slip on sneakers. See:

http://youlookfab.com/2008/05/29/slip-on-sneakers/

since you walk a lot. I've had good luck with some of this style and even hiked in them. My flats will tend to fall off when they get stretched out with wear or my feet get cold. Then I put inserts in them and/or wear sock liners. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I have been complaining about this problem forever and thought I was the only one who had it, but it seems like it's very common.

You could try getting some Dr Scholl's heel liners from the drugstore. They used to work well for me and still sometimes do, but since I had surgery on one of my feet, it hasn't been as effective. It certainly did the trick before then, though. They're just squishy little stick-on pads that grip your heel and also help prevent blisters and chafing. They're available pretty much everywhere I've ever been, and there are also some knockoff versions for less but I found them less effective. The only drawback is that they do form a pretty permanent bond, so if you ever need to take them out it might be a laborious process. I have had some success but there is often a sticky residue.

I have a hard time keeping flats (that are not mary janes) on my feet for walking. I have even tried sizing down and that did not work.

Has anyone solved this dilemna?

Mary Janes work well for me but I have not found the most versatile pair that will go with any SAHM flop proof outfits.

I walk a ton.

Thanks for your help!
