I'd be willing to bet it's the same stuff. If I were taking a little child to Disney who I knew would beg me to buy, I'd most definitely go to Walmart and stock up there so I could tell the child, "No, we're not buying anything at Disney today. You already have Disney clothes." Thankfully, my children are past that stage. When they were little, my MIL bought clothing and trinkets for them from either Walmart or from the clearance rack at the Disney Store. My MIL loves Disney so much that I never had to buy any of that stuff!

An acquaintance told me she found a TON of Disney items, incl. clothing and items suitable as souvenirs, at the Walmart closest to Disneyland. I would figure they are licensed. She said they were at a price point she could afford, and it sounds like the quality is on par with what one finds inside the park.

I had no idea those cheap poly princess dresses were that expensive. That's downright obscene! I never bought that stuff for my 4 girls; they never asked for or expected it, thank goodness. We didn't even spend all the money we had budgeted to spend. We simply didn't see very many items that we thought were worth the price tag. My DD did find a really cute handbag that's red with white polka dots, black trim, and tasteful Mickey Mouse logo on side that's not overdone. She needed a purse and loved it the minute she saw it. She also got a couple of trinkets from Epcot, while I picked up a small "Cinderella's Castle" Christmas ornament.

I agree. We went to Disney world a few times before my daughter was born. We always skipped over the clothes and just bought trinkets for memories. This year we are taking my toddler for the first time. I'm planning to make her a couple of outfits and will also be watching for sales at the disney store online to maybe get a couple of tshirts.

The worst offenders are those cheap polyester princess dresses that are close to $100. I have seen little girls completely melt down over not being able to get one. I've also seen parenting buying 4-5 of them. They are so cheaply made I just hate to see people paying that much.

My daughter is a little bit of a tomboy at this point, and I'm very ok with that =) I do plan to make her a little frilly dress before we go in case she gets there and decides she needs to be a princess. If she doesn't, I'll make sure to make the dress in a way that it can be used for something else.

You seemed to have done well with minimal wallet damage. Seems you have imparted the wisdom of quality vs quantity to DD - well done!

It was extremely difficult to find quality clothing for my teenaged DD at Disney. I finally found a nice sweatshirt at Planet Hollywood marked down to $19.99 (originally $48). Anything that was decent quality was at least $48; some sweatshirts were $60. The tees were tissue thin and didn't look like they'd hold up in the wash. I could seriously do a lot better at Walmart, and that's not saying much. As you'd expect, the tees were priced at around $30; definitely not worth it. Fortunately, my DD is a savvy shopper and is able to spot bad quality when she sees it. I told her to ignore the logo or decor and focus on the quality of the garment itself. It was slim pickings, I tell you, and I think we bought the only sweatshirt that was on sale that was also good quality enough to be worth taking home.
