OK back! WELL. First, I am shocked those were up for return consideration. I would loooove to have a pair of relaxed white skinnies like those; mine have become slouchy (and are straights, which I dislike for myself), and the vibe just isn't as crisp as I'd like from my only white jeans. I need another pair -_- I think they will work famously with your desire to incorporate more classic items, PLUS give a very fresh summery vibe to your tougher items. Win win. PS: I wasn't able to comment on that post of yours, but I fully support your decision to go more classic! I made that decision officially last year sometime and haven't looked back. As a gal with multiple style personas, I find that those classics bring stability both to a volatile wardrobe (range of styles) and to volatile items (esp. punk/rock items). And since I mood dress, stability in my wardrobe means stability for my brain.

Anyway, back to your week's outfits! All three look super in my head ^^ I like the earthier tones you've paired with the off-white jeans. I haven't really done that; I'm usually pairing with whites/grays or SUPER BRIGHTS, but I like the soft-yet-bright vibe you've got going with the tans. Another great example of earthy colors but not a wholly earthy outfit, though I do see some boho touches with those. Also liking the draping silhouettes you've got going here, soft and interesting. Looking forward to seeing more of your new style direction

Nice, Rae! I'm SO impressed. That is really a slick presentation and I totally hear you on not wanting to recreate your outfit pictures. By the time the light is right in my bathroom, it's the afternoon, and quite warm in there.

I love that blue/green dress and I'm happy to see your wonderful trench in action. I think it's a very good sign if you can find most of your outfit pieces on Pinterest and Polyvore. And now you can play with them on your computer, the ultimate nerdy fashion fun!

I uploaded a lot of my closet to Pinterest and Polyvore, hoping to keep better track of what I own and the options that I have. I was pretty pleased at how many pics I could find of my items without pulling everything out of the closet for a massive photography session.

Incidentally, I also had a helluva time taking outfit pictures this week. It's too hot (and I'm too lazy) to recreate all the ensembles, so I threw together some conveniently easy Polyvore sets instead. As you can see, I am still loving my black blazer and white jeans! And just think: I was initailly reluctant to buy these basics.

I suppose I have enough interesting things that it finally felt "okay" to spend $ on backdrop items. I no longer fear that basics will leave me looking too mainstream for my personality, because I know my boots, belts, trench, and prints hold their own in the gruffly quirky department. It's a good feeling!

Buying statement pieces first goes against most suggestions on how to build a wardrobe, and it isn't the most economical strategy when it comes to time - but it worked for me. Kind of like buying the painting before the frame.

Only... I have a good amount of paintings, so I might need some more frames!
