Maya, I didn't get a chance to congratulate you on your internship at the Met. I'm so glad you're busy again, and I hope this position leads you to bigger and better things in the new year. Congrats and good luck!

Bumping!

I think I settled on getting the shirt for mom. She tried on my shirt and even though it was too small, I could tell it would look wonderful on her in the right size. I actually feel better about getting it for her than for me. She never buys anything for herself--and the few times she buys something nice, she likes to store it away for special occasions. It would be great to get her a beautiful statement shirt after all the fab things she got for me this Xmas.

I'll give Foxcroft a bash. Perhaps in my new bras they might fit better than I expect.

Carissa says they recently started cutting their shirts bigger and she will see if there is anything from previous stock she can send.

I'll give Foxcroft a try. Online, the smallest size they have s a 4. Is that as small as they go or is there a 2 available (just in case)? Also, are any of them no-iron styles? I loathe ironing so that would be a huge plus.

Maya - like Angie says there are many Foxcrofts and some are better than others. Overall they *are* looser fitting but I like those on the days my bloat factor is higher. And when it isn't I wear them under a jacket and they look great. Also, you're right, some of the basic button downs, you can make more edgy with other layering. I hope something fits out of all this.

Maya, may we see Carissa's shirt on?

There are many Foxcroft fits. Can you get to a Nordies and try the different fits on? You'll need the ones that have front seaming detail.

Please let us know what Carissa says. She makes a beautiful product and I'm still hoping that she'll pull something out of her magic hat.

I did check Bravissimo Kari, but they don't have any basic buttondowns. Actually, I have a bone to pick with them: Why do they make so many knit tops? Busty girls don't have a problem with knits. it's WOVENS that we have trouble with. If they're going to make knits, they should make more modest options since that is what I struggle with most. Knits fit, but they all need a cami.

Anyway, rant over. It just surprises me.

Just a quick thought - I know it's kind of expensive due to the exchange rate, but have you looked at Bravissimo's shirts? I think they carry smaller sizes, too. Apologies if this is something you've already considered.

I am thinking of trying the Foxcroft shirts at Sihaya's recommendation. Angie, I know you said they are too mature for me as a brand, but since it's just a basic buttondown, I don't think it matters. Since I am both an hourglass and an apple, which one might be better? I kind of prefer a fitted one but I realize it's a tall order for it to be fitted *everywhere*.

Oh man, what a huge bummer. I was really excited to see how it looked on you. That's great that your mom liked it, though.
I will try to keep my eyes out for any button-downs that could potentially be Maya-friendly.

I just got it today and wrote to her, so she hasn't had time to respond yet. But it seems like a lost cause if the smallest size is so big. I would have considered doing extensive alterations, but when the shoulder doesn't fit, nothing can really help. I actually got a different shirt from the one Kari got, but it's essentially the same idea.

http://carissarose.com/shop/shirts/emma-shirt/

I'm ok with it though. It's disappointing but I think it will look great on my mommy, and it is something she has been wanting for herself for a long time (she is very well endowed...no surprises, I'm sure). She will make good use of it. Anyway, she loves buying stuff for me and spoils me all the time, even when money is tight, so it's probably high time I reciprocate.

Very sad news: The Bratique Helene shirt did not fit me! I was so disappointed when I put it on. It was just too big all over for me and no alterations could fix it (I checked with my mom hoping she would tell me differently, but no such luck). The shoulders are droopy, the waist is a little too big, and the sleeves are too baggy and long. It is the smallest size available so I can't size down. This is not a commentary on the quality of the garment though. The fabric and the tailoring are flawless and it is a beautiful shirt, and obviously this is a unique problem for me since it looked so great on Nicole and Kari. My mom loved the shirt though, so I think I will exchange it and get one for her instead. I have a feeling it will fit her better.

Anyway, I suppose this means I'm doomed to a buttondownless life unless one of the brands in the other thread I made works out. It really stinks because there are so many times I put something on and think "this would be so much better with a great buttondown under it." It's such an indispensable layering piece.

I'm not seeking advice since I got that from the other discussion, but I have a lot of trying-stuff-on to do and I don't look forward to it! I just hope I can find SOMETHING that works.
