Thanks for the sweet comments everyone and the wise advice, Julie and Angie. I almost never go bare-legged and certainly would not when it was actually cool enough to wear a coat. It's just that it's still August here, but I really wanted to try on my trench.

Angie - I really like how you explained that.

This was my very first YLF-mediated purchase. You guys did a great job!

Gorgeous trench! I am a non-belter so I have no idea on belting but I like the addition of a rich, saturated color scarf near your face.

LOVE the trench with the bright scarves and your gorgeous red hair. Wearing that colour in a flat texture is about creating a contrast and I do like what Julie suggested about making your legs darker with hose or pants. Like it best tied.

Baby looks beautiful!

Length/fit is looking good from my end!

I do prefer the more autumnal tones of the scarf in Picture #3. It looks like it ties the light color of the trench together with the richer tones of your hair -- and in general just flatters your complexion the most.

I don't belt coats, but I did want to say that if you so desired, you have enough room on that sucker to just get the buckle chopped off and make it a "tie only" belt. [Or maybe the buckle slides off? /belt ignorant]

I always just tie the belt on a trench coat. I like the slightly more jaunty attitude it gives. Love the pop of color from the scarves! Enjoy your new coat!

The fit and length and color and fit is wonderful! I think the belt will just take a little getting used to- what a great buy! Love the gray scarf with it...although it really doesnt need any embellishments....you'll be able to wear almost everything with it

It fits you really well. Length is perfect too to wear over skirts and dresses.
For the belt - I just tie it in front.
Green scarf looks good as well as reddish. I think the last purplish scarf is too muted. I would use deeper colored scarves for contrast.

prefer tying the belt in front. buckling looks too fussy.

i've also tied the belt in the back if i plan to wear it open, to keep the belt from sliding off and to take up a bit of volume.

Beautiful trench! Fits you perfectly; I also think the length is fine. I especially like the scarf in photo #3.

I am also a bit flummoxed by belts on coats. I just bought my first proper trench last month so I'll need to practice belting it. . . and going back to study Angie's blog posts where she has pics of her belted trench to see how it's done. I'm hoping I can just loop the extra end over the belt a bit to the side and tie it loosely, so there's just a small part hanging down. Does that make sense?

I think I will be 100% in love with the trench if you are wearing darker hose or trousers so have a greater contrast between the jacket and your skin. I love the colour against your red hair. You are beautiful!

Love the length on you - what great legs you have. Sorry I'm not much help!

At least my first non-hand-me-down trench.

Three questions are

(1) Do I need to shorten the length? I think it’s perfect but I wouldn’t know.

(2) I am confused by the belt. If I wear it as a belt there is nothing to do with the long tail. If I tie it, it tends to stick out at odd angles. What do you do with your trench belt?

(3) I quite like the color in person. It is a pinky warm beige. I realize my skin looks a rather unattractive color in the photos, but I think that has more to do with the lighting, dreadful carpet, and use of spf 50 on my unhosed legs. I tried out a few different scarves to lighten things up. Which ones do you like, or are there other colors you think I should try?
