I have enjoyed your post and the discussions! Like these outfits!
It’s great to work from “ how do I want to feel” and also, what do I want to project. And this can be very audience- specific— for hubby?!- or for friends “I’m not only a mom, I have other dimensions “.

I have tended to focus most of my wardrobe resources ( energy as well as budget ) on professional workwear. Yet I do have wardrobe pieces, accessories , outfits for other occasions and “ roles”, including “ date night”.

Recently I’ve been doing more re- mixing of items to create these other “ looks”. Your post has inspired me to do more if that!

You look incredible in all of these! Wow!
I think the last one is fabulous, and the most alluring. I love it with the fun and funky orange sandals.

I really like the v-shaped neckline on you, and the straight skirts. I think they’re subtly alluring.

I love to feel alluring. I am not a bombshell build at all, but I always feel my best in alluring clothes. (Although the outfits don’t end up looking very alluring to others, they feel alluring to me :-)).

This is a really neat project, Aloha Emily.

Thanks for describing why you want this change. I can really relate. I remember looking around at about age 40 and beginning to feel attractive again in the kind of way I hadn’t thought about for about 10 years ( first baby was born just before I turned 30). And of course I had been married since age 25. I think it was all a bit subconscious at the time but I did dress slightly more “sexy”- pretty subtle because I was brought up very conservative! I need to look up my 40th birthday red dress for you- curves on show!
And do milk it because it may not last for ever- at 46 or so I had an early menopause and gained 7 kg.
All these outfits you have shown look stunning and the hoop earrings are great. Baby steps are fine!

Thank you again! Thinking of how I want to feel is a great way to start. And I also like subtle bombshell, and working with the powerful side of femininity. These looks do feel good to me- I felt comfortable and confident. Especially with all your kind encouragement.

I like Katerina's term, "subtle bombshell" ... these are all very feminine, elegant, but all pack a bit of a punch with the colours and patterns that hints at the powerful side of bombshell (vs. being too sweet or dainty).

In any case, these are gorgeous - the question is, do they FEEL good to you?

Seconding Liz' comment, I would like to add some more words to be considered: chic, (relaxed) elegant, yummy, classy. Other fabbers might have further suggestions.

If it feels overwhelming to figure out what alluring means to you, why not start simply and ask "how do I want to feel?" It sounds like you're tired of feeling like a utilitarian mom who dresses with childcare as the top priority. You're ready to recapture something that you felt in your 20s. But you're not in that life stage anymore and don't want to go backward.

Maybe a simple start is just finishing the statement, "I want to feel . . . " and then list all the words you can think of. I'm going to start you out with some to choose from: alluring, womanly, feminine, attractive, sexy, desirable, romantic, colorful, free, playful, carefree, adventurous, mysterious.

All three are great! I particularly like 2 and 3 — that dress is wonderful, and wrap style dresses can definitely add a bit of bombshell allure.

I get why you are interested in playing up this aspect of style, and I applaud your efforts — you truly do look great, and I don’t see a “non-curvy” body. You look feminine and shapely. (Consider this as you will, coming from someone who has always had very hourglassy curves, ever since I was 14, and is frequently trying to deemphasize them in an effort to look straighter, and thus longer and leaner).

Well I can understand how you feel. Once my son got out of the toddler years I could dress more for me. Heels rather than shoes that needed to chase down a toddler, actual earrings that dangled without worrying that they would be pulled from my lobes... It felt liberating to dress to please myself. I love being a Mum, but I didn’t want to lose my own identity or sense of style just because I added the Mum job into the mix.

You look lovely. Attractive and feminine in a classy and sophisticated way.

Thank you so much for all the helpful and encouraging feedback- and perceptive comments!! I think I’m being a bit lazy with the word bombshell. A more accurate word might be “alluring”, as Angie uses it. BUT I’m not actually sure what alluring means to me! I need to do the work to figure it out, which feels a little overwhelming. I’ve spent the last decade raising small children and am now entering a new phase as they are a little older. The last time I felt alluring, I was in my twenties and available. Now I’m in my forties and in a very committed marriage. I know I’m done with spit-up-proof clothes, but I’m not sure what alluring/attractive means for me now. I know it’s a challenge lots of women face, and I’d love advice from others who’ve been through it!

These do not look bombshell to me but are still flattering. Some of us could not really look bombshell if we tried. We have straight figures wirh no boobs or hips to accentuate. Your clothes here look like they skim your body without being tight. That is a different look and can be a good thing.
Do your boobs or hips jiggle when you walk? My favorite is #2, all these outfits look more classic to my eye. YLF,

It is fun to try something new and experiment! :)

My favorite is outfit 3, though 2 comes in at a close second. You look good in a wrap dress. Maybe try adding more of those to your wardrobe? There are also wrap tops if you don't want a whole dress. I might also experiment with changing the footwear out in outfit 3--block heels don't say "bombshell" to me; I associate bombshell with skinnier heels (sorry, I know that's not very comfy!). I love the general idea of this heel--the color and the straps--but I think a more delicate heel might do more toward creating a bombshell vibe.

In outfit 1, I feel like the top has too much fabric. I would like to see a tighter top with the skirt. I like the arm candy in the pic...I think that helps with the bombshell vibe.

I like outfit 2 a lot. The top fits perfectly! I would be curious to see what a pair of cropped trousers with a slight taper at the leg would look like.

I like all these outfits. The wrap dress is the most bombshell to me.
I think 1 is a lovely flattering look that makes you look long legged.

2 is a nice look - I like your bag and bracelets. I see this as classic.

I occasionally wear looks that are a bit bombshell - and I know the term can be loaded. I am coming at it from the angle that often form fitting clothing is more flattering (and sometimes comfortable) on me than looser clothing or shorts and a tee, or skinny jeans. I tend to wear clothing that is fitting/body con but in longer lengths and not too bare.

These are all good! I think the pink blouse has definite feminine and ‘diva’ vibes, which to me read kind of bombshell without needing the vavavoom curvy aspect emphasized. It’s my favourite of the 3 outfits, love the bag and blouse combo. The other two outfits do give you the more stereotypical bombshell proportions.

Last week I asked for ideas on adding a bombshell vibe to my style. It’s a new look for me and a challenge due to my not-curvy body type. Here are three attempts inspired by the great advice from forum members. I’m experimenting with the form fitting silhouette and lower necklines Angie suggested (baby steps because my “tight” and “low cut” looks are still pretty conservative, I know), bright lip and nails, hoop earrings and heels. Am I on the right track? Suggestions?
