I have thrifted some amazing shoes (in my own eyes I mean) but I have to agree there is thrifting, consignment, and all sorts of gradations in between. Anything that is curated (ugh that word!) is not really thrifted to me. Regarding the smell and ick factor, she could probably pull the tongue out and back and reach the entire interior of the shoe. The bigger picture is, how does she feel comfortable wearing these used shoes with no socks! Maybe I am just a germaphobe, but your feet sweat a LOT and your shoes just absorb all the sweat.
