Awkward, but I think sorry, I know you would have done a good job, or congrats on your win, I'm sure you'll do a good job, suffice. Or saying that about the candidates at the post office. It is often different as I don't know everyone where I live, but often the choice here is, to me, between two strong, qualified candidates.

wow

if they couldn't handle the fact that there would be only ONE winner they should not have undertaken that task

I also live in a small town, 1500 people voted in our town council
as far I know , no awkardness the next day

I misread the title of this post as "Awkward small town electricians" and wondered why "non-political" had to be added. Ha.

These things happen in the big city too, for example when 7 very worthy people volunteer for 6 positions on the daycare board. Or the crazy bitter guy manages to alienate everybody else on the community garden plot committee such that they all sign a mass resignation letter. Sigh.

Try a medium size town. It’s just small enough for everyone to know everyone involved and just large enough to get people with bad intentions! Lol. At our town halls last year, we got straight up accusations of corruption and unethical behavior. My mum and I were just in fits of laughter there in the back row. ‘Bob, you’re a crook!’ ‘Steve, I can take property finder fees from developers, while sitting on the property development board!’

Yeah. No. ‘Bob’ was our district rep. Straight as a crooked line that one. Hahaha!

Angie - I don't think I'll ever move back to the big city, where would I put my menagerie I've collected these last few years. And the clean air, food I grow, good friends. It's all worth it, but I still have culture shock.

I think it's amazing how Facebook has connected rural America the way locally owned radio stations kind of did 20-30 years ago. Everything happens there first now.

I agree. I know just about everyone in the county we live in. It's too small for comfort.

Forget the national news. The election returns for our small town came in this morning on Facebook (the paper won't have the official results until next week). There were 2 candidates for mayor, both friends. Three candidates for town council seats, all friends. Because we live just outside the town boundaries, I can't even vote.

Now we have winners and losers. This feels like grade school elections all over again. Don't get me wrong, things are at stake, especially as we are going to need these folks to approve some permits for our business, but they are all hard-working, well-intentioned people. I'm avoiding the post office today, where everyone meets when the mail comes in. No matter what, it's going to be awkward. I just did not expect to feel so emotionally involved when I moved to the sticks.
