Thank you all. Yes, I had a wonderful time. The great looking pic is probably a feature of being well rested too.

I guess I did put a lot of planning effort in, but that was part of the anticipation. Also I started with my basic ski trip list as a template , otherwise I would have forgotten something irreplaceable.

Also made easier by the fact that my entire wardrobe is black, white, red and grey (plus navy for spring /summer) so I just had to narrow it down to which pieces.

Shiny, I'll be putting some pictures up in Off Topic once I thon them out a bit. But we did a concert, the morning exercise at the Spanish Riding School, the market, lots of Schönbrunn the summer palace (stayed near there) and some of the Hofburg Imperial Palace, and lots of sightseeing.

Firecracker, that particular café was in Lambach, on the way from Kits back to Vienna. We made a side trip to the village where my parents met as DPs after the war. Our salon was empty but I noticed 2 others attached (part of a hotel maybe? From the street it just looked like a tiny bakery. It was early afternoon the Friday before Shrove Tuesday, and I think everyone was saving it up for Fasching (Carnival) parties later.

Great list, you look great in red! How fun that you went outside your comfort zone, what better time to try a new styling than a trip away from your regular life!

That's a fantastic packing list! So disciplined and well thought-out, and it seems like it worked well. The photo of you is great--you look stylish and right at home (un-tourist-y). But an empty cafe? That's rare, isn't it? You must have been there really early.

Trip was for 10 days total, which included 4 days in Vienna and 2 days skiing in Kitsbühel as well as travel time flying and driving.

Overall items/numbers:
2 pants: black Ponte skinnies, and black houndstooth corduroys in a slim jeans cut
2 tube skirts: black cable knit to just below knee (Joe Fresh) and black and white paisley to just above knee (Cleo)
2 shirts: white with black pinstripes (Gap) and silk blouse with dark mostly red floral on black
3 fitted turtlenecks: black mockneck, white turtleneck, and white with horizontal grey stripes
2 sweaters /jumpers: fine-knit black crewneck, and bulkier black and white Buffalo plaid, both Joe Fresh
3 vests: fine black V-neck shell for layering over or under, black zip-front polar fleece for serious warmth, and button-front red-grey-black Fair Isle that felt right at home in the Tirol
2 leggings, black and black pinstripe, worn just for skiing as I didn't have space (or good selection) for tunics. I would have layered under skirts had it been colder in Vienna
2 belts: 1 black stretchy with blingy fastening for cinching tops over skirts, 1 of woven cordovan, all I could find that worked with the pants, but I bought another black one at the Vienna flea market
2 coats discussed elsewhere: white plaid parka for skiing and travel, red wool fitted coat for city
2 scarves: red plaid blanket scarf reversing to houndstooth, red paisley pashmina (forgot the silk scarf I planned for but managed fine without it)
2 purses, black leather satchel that went everywhere and served as carry-on, and my everyday black clutch that was hardly used
Black leather gloves, red beret, red headband
Footwear: black knee high riding style leather boots, black cap-toe ballet flats with a walkable wedge, and black Birkalikes for hotel room, spa, and when my feet were screaming. I think footwear warrants a separate post.
Plus ski-specific gear, silk long undies and vest, black socks and hose, satin pjs and robe.

All these fit into 2 suitcases along with DH's stuff and 2 pairs of ski boots. Items worked in many combinations and situations (mind you, if the ski part had been first we would have needed laundry!) I was surprised how easily the Ponte pants acquired spots and how hard they were to rub out. Otherwise, all I would do differently is footwear options.

BTW, I have never been a fan of the skinnies-tucked-into-tall-boots ON ME, though I love it on others (irrational -- I feel very ice-cream-cone despite my skinny thighs and huge feet). But I wore it frequently, felt fab, and from the glimpses I got, looked fab as well. Maybe it's that my actual life requires outdoor boots changed for indoor shoes.
