Shana - I think Country Road did massively expand into international markets - but has since cut back. I practically never go there. Too conservative I guess, but mainly too expensive.
Anna - thanks for the info. Who knows what we don't pick up from the other side of the world!
My main reason for asking though, was just to get some idea the places that are talked about here are like.

I remember Country Road! Many years ago (I think when I was in college), I remember going to a mall (in the U.S.) that had a Country Road store. I guess they no longer have any shops here now. Looking a their webpage, I would say sort of a cross of Martin & Osa and J. Crew.

Thanks Maya. Although I knew Boden was British I didn't realise they didn't have any shops in the US!

Just a quick note: Boden is not an American store, it is British. Everything we get here is ordered online or through the catalog! I believe Boden has a B&M store in London though, and perhaps elsewhere.

Yes I can't sleep - grrr! I am going to suffer for it tomorrow I know!!

I thought of a perfect analogy for Anthropologie as well - quick brown fox!!! Not sure if theres one over near you, but there are a couple in Sydney and Melbourne that I know of. Quite eclectic!!!

Anne do you mean in terms of style, or in terms of price??

I'm about to hit the hay, but here's some initial thoughts and impressions of the shops there. Maybe I'll be more coherent tomorrow :)

Ann Taylor = JacquiE (midrange prices, mostly kinda conversative styles but some really nice pieces too. Thats the Ann Taylor Loft I'm speaking of. Didn't go into an actual Ann Taylor store.)

J Crew = Country Road (Weirdly I expected this place to be a dept store rather than a regular store. Mid-highish prices. Again somewhat conservative)

BR = Portmans (midrange prices, lots of work-style clothing with some interesting looks and dresses thrown in)

Club Monaco = Witchery/David Lawrence (Mid-highish prices. Minimalist but still interesting with some lovely pieces there)

Forever 21 = Supre (cheap and fun! Although much less nasty than Supre)

Express = ??? (reasonable prices but not super cheap. Trendy but with lots of basics as well. No immediate Aussie equivalent springs to mind unfortunately as I really quite liked this store!!!)

Boden = didn't see one of these stores

Anthropologie = ?? (mid-high prices for psuedo-boho pieces. Like a Tree of Life mixed with some fancy brand and priced accordingly. Don't think there is a direct Aussie equivalent).

Does that help at all?? I'd love to hear others thoughts on this too!!

I guess this is a question mainly for Tam and Imogen (who have recently visited the US) but others are welcome too.

What would you say the Aussie equivalent of the US shops frequently mentioned on the forum would be eg
Ann Taylor
J Crew
BR
Club Monaco
Forever 21
Express
Boden
Anthropologie
