I love this sentence: "I didn't pack light." It sounds like the beginning of a story, and I guess in a way, it is. I grew up in that frost in the morning, sweat at noon kind of climate, so I am used to it. But when you are young, it is less about finding the appropriate clothes as toughing it out without a jacket.

I like your wide-leg jeans very much. Most of the ones today I see in catalogs I don't like, because they seem to be about crumpled fabric swallowing the body. But I like yours because they seem to work with the shape of your body.

Congratulations on recovering from your health issue!

Your outfit formula is so good. I hear you about it being cooler than anticipated — I bought a wool cardigan on my first trip to the UK 35 years ago because I had packed for “August” weather and not necessarily UK weather. But you adapted beautifully. I love the jeans outfits!

How wonderful to have a summer holiday in our winter. Those temps are verging on cold to me! You look sensational and it shows how cohesive your wardrobe is. I'm sure the cafe owner misses your daily style. I went to the UK 12 years ago in June and threw into my suitcase a trench coat at the last minute - it ended up being the most worn topper - I was thinking at the time "I must be mad to take a coat in Summer, there is no way I'll need this..." only to be very happy to have the coat.

I bet Sienna was very happy to welcome you home.

Sal, I loved the Victoria and Albert Museum, because of its design focus. Unfortunately the fashion wing was closed for renovation We still went 3 times. And 4 times to the Science Museum. So much to see and do. And I loved having a cooked breakfast outside every day. It felt so decadent.

Slim cat, all blue is rare for me. I am warming to blue. I love it with green.

Angie, I was prepared for cooler weather but the daily variability was a surprise. Meantime many people were wearing shorts and tee, or a sundress, at breakfast at 14C. Made of sterner stuff. I can handle feeling cool when I’m walking around (in fact I prefer it) but when sitting down to a meal I enjoy my creature comforts. Yay for team pack as much as you can

Thanks everyone! I’m sorry for not replying individually. This post has got away from me - thanks to jet lag and time differences.

Karie, I’m glad my husband is not alone. I think when we travel we expose ourselves to bugs that we are not used to. I’m just glad that it wasn’t COVID and wasn’t too serious, even if it was annoying.

RobinF, yes, it is a wonderful city! So much to see and do. And friendly people.

Cookie, I carried my favourite items in my carry on, to make sure they weren’t lost, hehe.

Suz, packing and dressing for 2 seasons is challenging. The sweater tie is so practical in variable temperatures. I never see anyone do it so I wonder if anyone else does it. I suspect people think it’s sloppy. I think it can add colour and texture to an outfit, so I’m actually a fan.

SarahD8, I like dark over light because it puts the darker colour next to my face, which is generally more flattering for me. Also, as the skirt is the largest block of colour in the outfit, if it is lighter the overall impression of the palette is light. So the palette still looks summery, despite my love affair with darker and moody colours which are not traditionally worn in summer. I didn’t see anyone in London wearing burgundy. And no dark brown even though it’s trending. And very little teal.
Colour wise, I felt like an outlier.

Your travel outfits are splendiferous! It's so nice the woman shared with you that she saw you as a style muse. You definitely are one here! Your capsules are so cohesive and coordinate beautifully. Traveling to London was a great way to celebrate your all-clear. It's too bad that your husband got sick during the trip but fortunate that you both were able to enjoy a lot of it.

I am so happy to hear that your and your husband’s health issues are sorted and you had a great trip. You look soooo fantastic. I must say I have never seen anyone look so elegant with a sweater tied around her waist! I was scrolling through these photos thinking “I really need to rethink my need to wear pattern all the time” and then got to your floral skirt and went “Never mind!!” lol.
I hear you on wanting to bring all your favorite things when traveling. I am kind of the same way even though I pack light in the sense of cramming everything into a carryon, so I guess I mean my favorite less-bulky things. My mother tried to advise me never to bring things I love on travels in case I lose them or something and on the grounds that you’re not being seen by anyone you know, but I think I have converted her to my way.

Gorgeous, gorgeous outfits! I am with the cafe manager (and what an excellent compliment). I'm glad your health issues are resolved and hope DH is all better. It is so easy to get sick when traveling with the long plane ride and the lack of sleep. Anyway, it was delightful seeing how you switched up your look and enhanced it with jewelry.

Back again to comment on the layering. YES! It is crucial in the British climate or in the PNW climate, which is very similar. 26 would feel (or *could* feel) downright hot to me, given the different temps i am used to (and it would depend on humidity, of course). But you are right -- in these climates it can be very cool in the mornings and evenings even on hot days. There is just no telling. It makes travelling light next to impossible. Which I don't mind, personally, and you don't either, thank goodness! But one still has to plan for it.

These are just stunning outfits. Love them all and admire the variety you created with just a few choice bottoms. I especially love the looks where you have tied a sweater diagonally -- gorgeous on you! And so clever considering the need to layer. I also really love both those t-shirts. I have a great metallic tee from Zara, too, that I will never give up. But the peacock print one is perfect for your chosen palette! And the jeans and jacket looks are just drop dead 70s glam and fabulous.

Well. My very favorite thing about this post is your good health news. Very relieved to hear this and wishing you the best of health for the future.

I am sorry that your husband got sick on your trip but glad it was not as serious as his previous experience!

Your travel capsule and outfits are amazing, as ever. I love your capsule-building strategy and may make use of it when planning outfits for the upcoming season (for me, fall).

I am always so amazed at how well you use duplication of specific items and outfit formulas. Your looks are so cohesive, yet never merely "more of the same." Brava!

I am especially drawn to your outfits that feature a top that is darker than your skirt, including 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 18 among others. Inverting the usual "darker on bottom, lighter on top" formula looks really sophisticated to me for some reason.

And I absolutely LOVE #21 -- floaty dark floral maxi skirt + cozy dark longsleeve seems like such a scrumptious outfit formula for transitional weather. I want to see if I can rustle up something similar in the coming weeks!

I love that you didn't pack light and instead packed all your favorites. Wearing beloved items while traveling can make for very memorable pictures. London is a city filled with wonderful sightseeing opportunities. It's one of my favorite cities.

You packed an excellent outfit formula of fitted tee + long flowy skirt and wear this combination so beautifully! And the flared jeans with blazer is another excellent combination. I also really like your accessories, especially the pendant in 35 and layered necklaces in 37. You have a great eye for statement necklaces!

Glad you were able to take a spontaneous trip and find enjoyable moments. I hope everyone's health continues to improve and you get to enjoy more fun trips in the future.

You know am a sucker for the skirted ones-loved how many and variegated options you had and they all worked so great with your tan/burgund sandals and the 2 bags-and so clever to be prepared for all kind of weather with layering!!! These were all trusted things-all true to your self (I hate when someone, including me-sometimes:-( has to change styles during vacations for the sake to blend in...) so no wonder they worked so well- and that you became a fashion muse -what a great compliment, isn't it? Happy that health issues have sorted out and you have had a great time in London!

Just gorgeous. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues--what a relief to have it behind you now. Your outfits are nothing short of amazing--you are a fashion muse for sure. I can't pick a fave but I love the simplicity of the skirt outfits. The green floral is my fave along with all of the denim iterations. I love the simplicity of the solid skirt outfits too - I would love to be able to channel those! Thank you for posting. You always look so chic and perfectly accessorized. I just adore how you pair colors too. Taking notes!!

Great travel wardrobe - I'm taking notes for the future!
I love everything - especially outfits with your two fab graphic tees - total envy! The attention to details, accessories - jewelry and shoes, lip gloss, bags is fantastic.
I also admire the last outfit - all blue with your hardworking jeans and gold jewelry - perfect in every way.
Sorry to hear about health issues - hope it's all in the past.

I empathize with your weather shock! Where I grew up we had two kinds of weather: fog in the morning and then it burns off, or fog. I didn’t understand why people had weather reports on the news. Nothing really changed. I am sorry to hear you have both had health challenges this year. That stress is so draining. Glad you finally were able to get out a bit. I join the appreciation particularly for the print skirt outfits.

Brooklyn, I missed you, and welcome back!

Sorry you've had to deal with health scares and that hubs was sick on your trip. Always stressful and unpleasant. Thankfully all clear, and smashing idea to take a spontaneous trip - which went well nonetheless!!! A great relief. Woooohoooo!!!

KILLER FAB in every outfit - and I expected nothing less! Beautifully bespoke colour combinations through tried and tested outfit formulas, FTW! All of which are adorned with the stunning signature way you complete a look - with gorgeous accessories! PERFECT and love it all!!! Such a well deserved compliment from the cafe manager.

As for London weather - that is exactly what we have in Seattle. Almost always cool in the morning. And at this time of year - cooler at night already (shorter days). Always need toppers. Now you get why us Seattleites have LOTS of toppers. Glad you made it work with what you packed! I get that warmer clothes would have worked too.

Go Team Don't Pack Light! Go Team Pack Your Faves! :)
