Thanks for the report. No rush to clear out your Dad's things, the time will be right another time.

I actually like the maxi as is, but I could see the benefits of being a high-low hem.

My week 3 was no progress aside from wearing one dress on one day! I will post a couple of WIW this week. One day was spent totally in painting gear, and a weekend away doing an event so little chance to try on dresses or wear them.

After 2 1/2 months with no clothes shopping I am really looking forward to some buying. And the best news is we have got through the tight financial period with the renovation and business challenges so feel ready emotionally and financially!

Shevia, thanks so much for the scoop on The Real Real. I didn't know about the constant sales/discounts. I'll have to cruise their site a bit more first. I have gone through the packet they sent, and it looks seriously easy on my part. We'll see...

Suz, you just keep right on avoiding for a bit. It's way too soon/raw for you.

Thanks for the kudos. I still have a few more rounds to do on the entire wardrobe, but it feels outstanding to have made such progress on the outlying closets this month.

So funny about the 80s definition of "fit"! There were some totally illogical sizes in my closet as well.

Love the ensembles you've done so far! Looking forward to any others you get to!

Carter, I SO hear you on clearing out your dad's things. So very hard. I am avoiding that very issue with my mother's stuff. It hurts and it is hard, but it must be done. It's totally understandable if you need to take breaks while doing it.

Meanwhile, you are ROCKING the August challenge like nobody's business. You really have taken charge of your closets in an incredible way. I think you deserve some kind of YLF award for most achieve. One year sees your entire working closet revamped and revitalizes, and the next sees all the chaff go flying out on the summer breeze.

As Angie says, your "uniform" works, so no need to fix it. Also, a hi-lo hem on that dress will make it killer.

I SO remember those oversized 80s jackets. I should get out a few photos of myself from back in the day. We really did wear things too big. I remember I used to wear model "sample size" 10s from the Scandinavian designers stocked by the retail store where I worked. (Marimekko, Vuokko). At no time in those years could I have been a true size 10. True, vanity sizing hadn't come in yet. But at most I would have been a 4 or 6. (I only hit a size 10 just before my big weight loss a few years ago.) Still, I bought and wore those clothes and thought they were brilliant on me. Ridiculous!!

I've done pretty well on my own August challenge. My goals were to create a workable travel capsule (done -- it worked). And to try out some more Angie ensembles that I had backlogged -- and I have. I still have a few more to try out in real life, but once I do, I'll post them either individually or as a series.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

I have used the RealReal Carter and was very satisfied with them. I brought about 15 items to my sil's house last summer. They came, picked it all up, returned a couple of things that they didn't think they could sell and in the end sold everything else. The percentage is as good as it gets for these things, and although it is bigger than ebay's cut, they take all the hassle out of your hands. You can look on their site to get an indication of what your items will sell for, but keep in mind they have frequent sales and a pretty much constant 20% discount going. I have also bought a few things there (more about that soon I hope).
Anyway great progress and good luck!

You can always rely on your kids to give it to you straight. YES. Maxi dresses are impractical unless they have a high-low hemline. Hack to the rescue.

I'm excited to see your new dress. That's the spirit, Carter.

Thanks, Angie! What a fun idea to alter the maxi. I may have to do that. I was wearing it today, and my son walked in from school and said, "what's up with the dress?" I've also decided that maxis are quite impractical for my daily life...my desk chair keeps rolling over the hem, and my dog thinks I'm playing hide and seek with my toes.

One of the dresses I ordered just came today. Really cute! I'll wear it in the next few days.

(((HUGS))). I know how hard it is to lose a parent. Good job getting through that other closet though. WOOOHOOOO.

YES. We wore tops and jackets gigantic back in the '80s, while our bottoms cut off our circulation. Hourglass was wrong and IT was it.

I vote get some new dresses too. And on that note, FWIW, if you hacked a high-low hemline into that maxi, it would look fabulous to my eye.

Your "uniform" jeans and cropped pants outfits are great, Carter. No need to fix anything that isn't broken. Rock on - perhaps with a dress or two.
