GF, I've heard good things about the LaRoche Posay line of sunscreens. They're a bit pricier than my usuals but I want to give them a try at some point.

BC, I'm starting to suspect that the It CC cream is breaking me out too. BIG SIGH.

Thistle, woohoo - I'm getting a little thrill in my heart knowing that one of my recs worked for someone.

You're welcome, BC! They sell a sample size for $9 if you want to just give it a trial run. They also make a product called RESIST Triple-Action Dark Spot Eraser 7% AHA Lotion, which is specifically for dark spots. It has gotten very good reviews on the website, although I have not tried it personally. I've really been very pleased with almost all the Paula's Choice products I've used.

I tried the IT CC cream. It looked great but broke me out.

I think I want to try the Paula's Choice Resist C15 Super Booster that Xtabay recommends. I need to lighten some brown spots, and have yet to find a product that truly works. Thanks, Xtabay!

I love to read these! So nice of you to share your thoughts on new products.

It doesn't sound like anything knocked your socks off this round, but it's still nice to hear about these products. My latest find is the Paula's Choice Resist C15 Super Booster. You add a few drops to your serum or moisturizer and it brightens up your skin and gives you that healthy, rested look. It also lightens brown spots and improves redness. I like it a lot.

My TJ's moisturizer with SPF was running low, and I wanted to replace it with something with that had a higher SPF and a silky feel--other skin protective/repair ingredients would be a bonus. In the past, I really enjoyed Josie Maran's sunscreen, but found the price expensive for what it was. This time around, I settled on La Roche-Posay's Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum with Sunscreen SPF 50. I've only been using it for a week on my face, but I'm pretty happy with it so far. It has none of the shine from sunscreen and my sensitive skin hasn't reacted. The downside is that it isn't a mineral sunscreen.

Great reviews, Laura! If you need a good eye make up remover, I love the lid + lash wash from Bliss. It's a gel that works well but easily rinses clean. I've probably used it for over 20 years and hope they never stop making it.

For the most part, I am sticking with the 'clean' products I've been using for a few months now. I used to love trying new products but, like other areas in my life, I'm more into simplifying and eliminating extra stuff.

Thanks for the reviews. I love trying new things.
I have developed a crush on Micellar Water. I'm lazy at night and had been using wipes, but found micellar water (I like the Garnier version best so far) cleans amazingly. I even use it on my makeup brushes and it works great.
I always swore by Bifacil as the best eye makeup remover, but you're right it leaves oily residue (but not makeup). Micellar water can remove this

I enjoy your reviews. Thanks!

Here's what I've been using lately. I like most of these products. I just got a new haircut and I've been experimenting with texture (I have none). None of these are new or earth shattering just mostly successes for me.

During the year I usually wear Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. I'm relatively late to the regular make-up wearing game so I don't like the feeling of make-up. In the summer everything seems too heavy. I got a free sample of Dew the Hoola and I like it. Feels like I don't have any make-up on at all.

I'm also trying Bare Minerals serum foundation because Susie mentioned it on another thread. I like how light it is but didn't buy the special brush so still experimenting.

I usually use the Benefit mascara. My eyelashes are dark and long with some blonde tips so most mascaras don't really show up. I am trying the Better Than Sex mascara and so far find it too clumpy - maybe because it's waterproof? I like everything here but this mascara so it's been a good summer!

ETA: why are some of my finds gigantic??

Does the Bumble and Bumble shampoo contain SLS or sulphur anything?

Thanks Laura! I bought the It cosmetics CC cream but found it too thick and drying for my liking. I also tried the illumination version and had a similar experience. I will say two years ago I loved the Clinique CC cream but now find it is also too drying so I think my skin is really changing now.

I like the Bioderma Sensibio micellar water. Super effective, no stinging. I haven't tried the Sephora brand, but the "kind to skin" Simple line puts a formaldehyde releasing preservative in their micellar water. No good!

I'll have to think about my others. Nothing is standing out as new for August!

I've been using R+Co Gemstone shampoo and conditioner. It doesn't excite me. I liked their Moon shine, tho. Their products feel a little heavy to me, I will say. On the other hand, they don't make me sick with perfume like Oribe, and I like the look of my hair after. I miss the old Phyto.

As always, comment and add your own hits and misses.

Sephora Collection micellar water
Uh, it’s micellar water? Sephora sells it in a handy little 50ml container good for travel? It’s cheaper than all the fancy French brands? That’s all there is to say, really.

Peter Thomas Roth gentle complexion correction pads (QVC)
This was a product on QVC’s benefit for ovarian cancer and since I haven’t found an AHA product I really like I figured I’d give it a try. It contains both glycolic acid and a little bit of salicylic acid, so it should work for wrinkles/skin smoothness as well as acne prevention. The ‘gentle’ part seems to be true, at least in my case - it’s not so strong it causes redness and irritation like a lot of AHA products I’ve tried have. I’ve been using it every two or three days and that seems about right; daily would be too drying.

Pacifica scrub (Ulta)
This was in my sample-size collection of Pacifica products and is perfectly OK. It’s a walnut-shell-based scrub, so fairly fine. I wish it had a bit more slip as it’s very stiff.

Lancome Bifacil (Sephora)
A small size was available as a 100 point perk at Sephora so I decided to get it and see what all the fuss was about. It definitely works, taking off waterproof mascara etc. quicker and easier than any other remover I’ve tried, with no significant stinging. I’ve found that it tends to leave a residue which is hard to wash off, though; I’d prefer something ‘cleaner’. I’ll keep it around for getting off major makeup after a special occasion.

Pixi glow mud cleanser (Target)
I was not an instant convert to the Pixi glow tonic, although it’s grown on me. So I wasn’t sure if it was even worth the money to try this one. All the Pixi glow products are glycolic acid focused, and this one is a cross between a cleanser and a mask texture-wise, which you’re supposed to keep on your face for a minute or so before rinsing off. It tingles a bit and is definitely easier to wrangle and rinse off in the shower. I really like it - it gives a nice cleansed feeling and seems to clean out pores a bit, without stripping the skin so much that it feels tight afterwards.

Bumble & bumble Surf shampoo & conditioner (Sephora)
This was a sample packet so I only got two washes out of it, but what I saw I liked. It gave nice volume without frizz - the first day was maybe too big, but that’s due to my hair type, and second and third day was great. The conditioner is not particularly moisturizing, so if your hair is super-dry it’s probably not the best option. These would be too drying for me in the winter, but I think they’d work well in summer.

It Cosmetics Your Skin but Better CC+ cream w/ SPF 50
I needed a new base while I was traveling and had heard good things about this product, so I picked up a small size at Ulta. The lightest shade they had in store was the Light, which turned out to be a bit too dark for me, but cut with a little of the Becca shimmering skin perfector worked reasonably well. I liked the feel and it didn’t seem to break me out, so when QVC had a deal on it I ordered the Fair, which is a shade lighter. Turns out I’ve got a Goldilocks problem where the fair is too light for my summer ‘tan’ but the Light is too dark, but mostly Fair with a little bit of the Light mixed in works serviceably.
I’d been alternating the Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer and Tarte primer/cc cream, and this is thicker than the LM, with significantly more SPF - 50 as compared to 20. The Tarte is very silicone-y, and has to set before you can layer on top, whereas the It is buildable and a more traditional formulation. I wish it came in more shades, and it doesn’t cover all my imperfections, but as an everyday option, with enough of a sunscreen that I don’t have to layer something underneath my base, it’s a great option.

Alterna caviar exfoliating scalp facial
I’d had this one on my radar so when it was on half-off clearance at Ulta I snapped it up. It’s packaged in a container with a plastic-bristled brush on one end, which you’re supposed to use to scrub your scalp once you’ve got the product on. I found with longer hair that didn’t work that well; it was easier to apply like a hair dye, with lots of little partings of the hair, and then work through with my fingers. I liked the results; it cut down on flakes and itchiness for a few days and left my hair feeling really clean but not stripped. Not sure I’d pony up the 30+ bucks for it on a regular basis, but given that you only use it every week or two, it’s not completely nutty. (I read a ‘recipe’ online for something similar recently: coconut oil and epsom salts, scrubbed through the hair. Haven’t tried it yet.)

Murad rapid age spot and lightening serum (Ulta)
I bought a trial size of this since I’ve been noticing a lot more freckles and sunspots sticking around this summer. It doesn’t smell great - very medicinal - but goes on nicely and doesn’t cause irritation. I’ve only been using it for a couple weeks so I’ll have to wait and see if it does what it promises.

Sephora play box, July; quickie reviews since there are probably a ton of them on the internet already:
Too Faced chocolate soleil bronzer - this was a bit too dark for my skin, just made me look like I needed to wash my face. Could work OK for contouring, but I probably need the lighter ‘milk chocolate’ shade. For those who don’t know, these products actually have cocoa powder in them and smell like chocolate - Too Faced does a lot of food-smelling products - and that’s not something I love, since it makes me hungry at inappropriate times!
Nest citrine fragrance - smelled somehow very ordinary, like a high-end version of an air freshener, or something. I think it was the freesia. High quality and long-lasting but not a scent I loved.
Ouai wave spray - mostly oils but also has ingredients that provide a bit of lift. Makes the hair slightly crunchy.
Smashbox photo finish primer - silicone primer that made most of my foundations ball up. Worked OK with the Tarte primer/bb cream, but resulted in quite a heavy makeup look.
First aid beauty mud cleanser - this is a lot like the Pixi glow mud cleanser, although more gel-like and less like clay. Seems nice enough.
