The US market's oversaturation is definitely one reason, and perhaps the fact that EVERYONE living in Canada has to contend with 4-season dressing...? I'm fascinated with what else the factors could be. Perhaps because we have a HUGE number of immigrants with enormous disposable incomes...? A lower unemployment rate? A very well-travelled &amp; educated population that enjoys fashion as a hobby and an aesthetic? The French influence, Fashion Television...? One of the interesting things I came across in reading about the big changes in Canada's retail sector is that retailers make about $300 or so per square foot of retail space (on average) in the US, whereas in Canada, it's about $950 per square foot - so there is a lot of opportunity.
