This jacket came home with me on Saturday and I had an opportunity to wear it this morning. Pattern and color is true to web pics. I found it very flattering, with it cut to slightly nip in at waist. I completely agree with Janet that it is very slim fitting in the hips, which works for my body type. It does have a double-zipper that can be unzipped from bottom.

I purchased a regular medium and found it true to size (some Athleta pieces seem more generously sized). Petite is available online, but jackets often work for me in regular. The salesperson said it was the warmest of their jackets. It’s very cozy. I love the length, and the internal sleeve cuffs. I suspect this will be my go-to jacket this winter, given how much more casual my life is right now.

It's so great of you to do a review of this item that many are interested in. It looks great on you but if the fit is off, forget it. I often get that issue too, with jackets at the hip. It's not entirely a "wide hips" thing. It can happen if the jacket is simply built for someone with a longer torso. It means it is hitting you in your widest part when it wouldn't hit that fit model there. Similar problem to calf fit in boots.

Angie, that’s a good idea — I hadn’t even thought about whether the zip worked two ways — but I was mainly trying it for curiosity’s sake and for the benefit of other Fabbers, not out of any serious need. But maybe that helps someone else who is more seriously considering it!

Always good to see and hear in-person try ons. Thanks, Janet. Almost right, but can see the less than perfect fits.

That said, if you undo the two-way zipper at the bottom of the floral bomber a little, it will ease the fit over the bottom and hips. Is that an option?

These are cute. I don't have the hip problem but my large bust means I usually have to size up. I think I saw a version of the silver jacket on their website but it looked way longer. I would be tempted if it were down, super cute.

Janet, thank you for the report on your research. I like the second jacket best but fear those jackets would be too tight in the middle for me these days. I have a floral on black bomber jacket but find it a bit hard to wear as it makes such a bold statement.

I find puffers a tricky fit as well in the hips which is why mine tend to almost a bomber style. Sizing up is unflattering when I have this problem.

That's good to know! I get that bunching-at-the-hips with a lot of jackets too. I don't have an Athleta close enough to do try-ons, so this is very helpful. I'm tempted by the jacket, and it *might* work for me if I size up, but it would need to be perfect for me to justify. I suspect it might be too long for my tiny torso.

I adore the print and have the matching leggings on order; will report back once I've tried them on. They have a couple of tank tops in that same floral as well...

Glad this was helpful for some! I’m not really in the market for another puffer either, even though mine are mostly more utilitarian than fashiony. I was mostly curious just for curiosity sake, not with any real intention of buying unless it was a slam dunk fantastic.

Unfrumped, I hear you! I have a really nice periwinkle Arcteryx at the ranch and nearly brought it home. One of the few pricier items I have ever bought for ranchwear, but the color and fit were really good for me so my husband talked me into it. And I have a Uniqlo puffer, an old Canada Goose Down, a black Lucky Brand hooded puffer that I wore a lot on our camping trip, and my long black puffer, which is sadly starting to show some wear — I must have ripped it somewhere because little feathers are escaping. I need to investigate and repair!

Jenn, you’re absolutely right about the tugging down issue — I already have that problem with some jackets that I bought years ago when I was a size smaller. They’re snug if I zip them up — mostly I just wear them open. They’re toppers like leather moto jackets, so not as important to be able to zip as functional outerwear. I wouldn’t buy something new with that fit issue.

I hope someone here gets one or the other of those jackets. The metallic one is cool — it comes in other colors too — but definitely a different silhouette that may not be easy for everyone to wear.

I saw that floral in their catalog and was so tempted- Angie had her recent featured floral puffer from another maker, Garnet Hill has floral puffers, but the Athleta colors seemed better for me. But from reviews and such I was pretty sure it is cut too “ straight “ for me also. And so thanks for your review.

This is probably a good thing, because I have an Arcteryx lightweight down puffer jacket I like really well, plus a new- last-year EB longer down puffer, plus other coats and jackets, and don’t need to collect and hoard more outerwear. It is hard for me to break the habit of buying things I don’t really need!

Maybe there is something else in the same patterned fabric - it's pretty on you.
The metallic puffer seems more fashion forward or just a bit too much with gold color and quilting ( it could be just me - I think I have a poisoned eye to quilted jackets ).

Did a minute of research since our nearest Athleta is right next door to one of my favorite grocery stores today. I saw the floral puffer in the window and popped in to look.

A quick try-on reveals what I suspected and find generally true for Athleta jackets: fit in top through shoulders and chest is great but for the length it’s a little snug in the hips on me. It’s probably awesome for someone a bit straighter in body type. This is a M (I’m an 8 in most tops).

The metallic puffer is so cool. Again, not ideal for my personal body type, but super cute for someone built straighter or more IT-ish. The color is a sort of soft gold/platinum, in between silver and gold. Again, this is a M.

Hope this helps anyone considering one of these!

Athleta needs to clean their mirrors. Yuck!
