i think knits from higher end places are particularly susceptible to pilling especially because they can do these ultrathin drapey oversized knits that are so comfy that i wear them more than other cheaper versions.

bj1111, those are interesting observations. Even though there is a common sense that "knitwear" has to be replaced fairly often, I tend to think of that as being for lower-end items and not necessarily for merino and cashmere. And it would work both for minimizers or less so--if I were more minimal and had say 3 sweaters, I'd have to wash or dry clean 3 times as often as if I had more, and so on.

The other thing about these knits, even from higher-end places, is they can vary by year--somehow something changes in the materials or manufacture. So let's say one year the sweater is wearing like iron and then I'll read reviews from people who bought it again the next year, maybe dupe'd up, and it pills. It would be hard to "build" a wardrobe if all of your sweaters have to be replaced yearly!

Loft has let me down on knits a lot so I got wary and try not to be tempted any more by the good sale prices. But I have a Loft linen knit top from a couple years ago that is wearing great, no pills, hand-washes great, looks as good as new, and my JCrew linen knit is appearing as if it may be delicate and not last more than a year, if that.

this is a pretty teal-ish color.

i have the jcrew featherweight tneck in a medium and i can vouch for its baby softness and lack of itch factor. hands-down one of the best basic pieces that work with everything i put on--even the crazy poncho. reat updating piece for my classics and things i can't let go, like super skinnies.

unfortunately, it is more delicate than other fabrications. i think i can wear it all season and possibly into the late spring, but i anticipate having to purchase another one because of pilling along the back and sleeve from toppers and such.

With the focus on BF sweaters and loose knitwear, I attached a find for an AT V-neck sweater. What was interesting is that it's not too low a V-neck, which is unusual for me.

Lightweight merino knitwear works well for some of my needs, so I keep a lookout for it. Often better than cashmere for trans-season.
I'm trying this AT V-neck in a thin merino wool. I'm not a major V-neck person due to long neck and most V-s are too deep, and I don't want to have to always layer or have a tank cutting off the V. But I still like a V from time to time, often with a short necklace, or loose scarf.

I got the dark red even though it's not quite as "cool" a red as is my favorite. I wish it came in a light gray--the charcoal is too dark for me. Also for some reason the charcoal one felt just slightly itchy whereas I wore the red all day, no problemo. But, it's best to just try one and see how it perfoms, re: pilling or other problems.

I had started with size M since I wanted fluid, almost oversized fit, but ended up that the S is loose enough for me. In AT, I'm TTS in skirts and pants (meaning, if that doesn't fit, it usually doesn't fit well in any size) but in tops I've worn everything from XS to L, so it's totally unpredictable as to cut and whether I want to wear it looser or more fitted.

I still would like to get out to JCrew for merino T-neck both for the T-neck style and to check on the fabrication.
