Additionally, really starting to like the work aesthetic vibe I’m building. Check it out! Possible careers so far include museum work or possibly teaching world religions.

I was correct! Haul #2! If I’m lucky, the last of my graduation money will be going to a Disney Doughnut umbrella.

Hi! I have changed the title and put my graduation money to good use by buying some clothes. I’ll probably have a second haul here shortly, but enjoy the most items I have ever bought from a single store at one time. I cut out all underwear and most decor but it said I had like 55 items, lol. Didn’t feel like it!

Roxykrawll, I'm looking at the last set of pics, and you look smashingly super cute! What I love best about the look is how excited, happy, and confident YOU are wearing it. All sorts of awesome!

Your soft pink complement of mug, bag and socks is adorable.

And I agree with Stag, that a title change here is in order. WELL DONE

Dear RoxyK, I'm so proud of you and the progress you have made. Your overflowing collection of comfortable practical shoes will stand you in good stead when you join the museum workforce. Continue working through breaking up your wardrobe by purposes and in a short time you'll have a number of ensembles / outfits that make you ecstatic I'm sure. Best wishes to all.

Hi guys! Major progress! Please enjoy my first outfit in this aesthetic! I know it’s not perfect yet, it’s just what I was able to put together with what I have/ have clean. :)

Also, I’m back at square one with the plan to dye the wig because I fell in love with it as an option as well. :P

Please excuse the lack of makeup. I really wanted to wear some but I decided the spoons weren’t there for that many new things/ to either put on that much makeup or take it off (much less both) / for the short use I would have gotten out of it.

I was excited to see items I’m absolutely in love with but never wear due to not knowing how I wanted to use them, and I’m so excited to be wearing them all in one outfit!

Hope you’re as excited as I am. Enjoy!

I love your unique style! The goth mixed with the feminine fun things is fab. I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older that I still love the things I used to, for example edgy rocker style, but I have felt better mixing some refined things with the rock inspired items, so with a graphic tee and lug sole boots, I will now add a skirt or dressy trousers instead of the ripped jeans I used to wear, or with ripped jeans I will wear a dressier top and more refined booties. This may or may not apply to you, but the mixed refinement hit that sweet spot for me.

I agree Rachy - capsule by use is really helpful. If you like cosplay or yoga then of course you need a group of clothing that works for those interests. And like StagF - I agree comfort is important both physically and psychologically.

I’m a big fan of comfy shoes and comfy clothes. Not ugly ones, but fitting well/looking good does not mean they can’t be comfy! If it’s going to bug me to wear it, I don’t buy it.

I’m really quite taken with the pink blue constellation makeup look in your third set of photos! Also: cute bath suit and wig.

Actually, that was maybe the biggest wardrobe takeaway I’ve received from YLF - capsules by activity/use. All of a sudden, clothes that work!

I made so much progress today by looking at what I already have differently! Deciding to break my wardrobe up by purposes is a total game changer. I can see now how the stuff I have is actually totally reflective of my interests, I’m just not seeing the items’ potential when it all blurs together. It’s also having the added benefit of mixing things I didn’t think about before. I have nice items in my casual wear that make me feel less cheap in my casual wear and I have items that bring me joy in my work stuff without breaking either aesthetic.

I also found a couple other aesthetics I’m already unintentionally doing in other areas of my life. I have poi clothes that are kind of a sexy hippy genie vibe, my outfits for my walks are black and purple. I even found out that I’m tending toward a whole aesthetic with swimwear. I fell in love with this celestial swim suit that made me feel cute for the first time in a long time, and noticed I had a celestial beach hat and earrings to go with it. Unsurprisingly, in my spiritual life I’ve gathered things that make me feel more that faith for festivities. My yoga stuff has more of a natural vibe, and various dance stuff makes sense for various dances. My band has an aesthetic.

I actually found more than was shown here after I took the pictures and that’s wild because I only went through what was clean, which is like 20% of my clothes.

I even found what appears like a wig that I can dye to my liking, if my cosplay gurus give me good feedback on it.

I did have oddballs. My socks are insane, lol. This is because I buy them from places that only sell them in crazy colorful designs. This is in part on accident because of convenience and in part on purpose because they make me happy and it’s easy to match my socks.

My underwear drawer does not make me feel cute in the morning right now, but it’s improving. Right now it’s chaotic because of the amount of change going on in my life in so many directions. You’d be shocked how much those things relate, lol.

My pride stuff mostly integrates into my pastel lolita meets goth aesthetic I'm building due to the colors of the flag, but I have a few rainbow things that I love that have nowhere to live.

Most problematic is my overflowing collection comfy practical shoes and comfy practical clothes that tend to take over my life that I cant seem to quit.

Yes, those work! Fun to get your updates and see the directions you’re going. You might like Annagybe’s posts on ylf, and check out Rachylou’s current hair color.

I hear you that just starting your profession is not the time to let it all hang out with your personal style. Perhaps as you move up the hierarchy, you will come into organizations and positions that will allow for that more. In your first two collections, though, I see accessories like nails and some jewelry that could be carefully added to a more conservative professional wardrobe to give it a little flair and let your personality peek through.

Hi! I have been slowly working on your suggestions as I’ve had time with graduation going on. I have updates.

I took that quiz, and am waiting for my results to be emailed.

I have a few styles evolving. None of them scream professional by any stretch, so I’ve made the decision to have a work wardrobe and a fun wardrobe. I also bought a curly short purple and black wig to deal with my hair (see insta). I’ll eventually do a long curly teal and purple one, but this was what I could get in time for graduation that I still liked.

I’d send you my Pinterest, but it has some stuff in it that’s private, so I’ll just give you a collage of some of my favorites.

Allegedly this should work. Let me know if it doesn’t. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. You've come to a helpful place. I see that others have already given you great advice and suggestions so I will simply say, it's pretty common to feel overwhelmed when you have a lot of difficult transitions going on in your life, and often we focus on our style because it feels more manageable than other elements -- until it doesn't! But you will sort through it all, and figuring out your style is a great beginning point.

Hi Roxycrawll, another warm welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you have a lot going on right now and I think it's a positive sign you have the energy to tackle your style issues right now.

When you are able to post pictures perhaps you could post one or two items which appeal to you and we could maybe help you to build an outfit around them or to help define their style?

You have had really good advice so far, and welcome to the forum.

Ideas for what you do want to dress in can come from so many places - for me sometimes the forum, sometimes a tv show, sometimes someone I see on the street. And Angie does encourage us to have a style moniker and style statement that can make us focus in on what we do like.

If budget and energy are limited, then online shopping is a great way to find things especially for a good range of sizes.

Maybe you can play into the dichotomy - more feminine pieces in unexpected colours eg a softer blouse in grey or a boxy tee in a rainbow or lilac? In terms of impact I think hair and tops make the most difference, especially in a wheelchair (my Mum was in and out of one).

I may be off track - look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hello and welcome . . . I am pleased you found us. I went here:

https://ragtag.style/ and did their test. I'm not certain but I think someone here - and I thank you - suggested it for unsure people like me.I wasn't impressed with the
Style Personality report, however, I've had a couple of "inspiration" emails since then and today's is definitely me. You might like to try it and see if it assists you. Best wishes to all.

Well I am (unsurprisingly, I am a dedicated 2nd hand shopper) going to recommend browsing Poshmark and similar, not just because second hand is cheaper but there is a wide range of time periods represented - you will not be stuck looking at 2022 clothing.

Hi roxy! I like what Stagiere has to say and what you have going on your IG. You remind me A LOT of my workmate who shares my office with me on Tuesdays. My favourite exercise here on YLF is - who would you be in the Zombie Apocalypse? Lol - but you know, throwing everything to the wind, what would you go for? I thought it freeing

Hi friends! How do I give you all a “like?” You’ve all been so helpful. I’ll work on the things you’ve recommended and update you. The Pinterest board doesn’t have a lot of clothes in it yet. I just finished adding movies and shows I like, and am moving on to other non- clothing things. The clothes that are in there are in there because of my fandoms. But I will post when I clean it up. I hope that this picture will help for now. It’s pretty recent. Thanks again! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd.....MyMTA2M2Y=

Jules, I wasn’t here yet to see your apple green platforms, but your use of them remind me of what interior designers sometimes say about throw pillows—if you find one you really love, you can coordinate your whole living room by making sure every piece goes well with that one item. That sounds like a great wardrobe strategy, even if “the one” thing is actually not in the final ensemble, for whatever reason.

Thanks Lana!

Welcome! I think Pinterest brainstorming and eventually sorting is a great place to start, actually. The forum can help you refine your inspiration photos into keyword descriptions and practical suggestions. For me the beginning of my style rebirth or journey was a somewhat emotional purchase of some cute shoes outside my usual practical comfort zone (apple green snakeskin platform sandals!) . They didn’t turn out to be that practical but all the better - choosing something fun that spoke to me and then building outfits around it turned out to be what I needed to start enjoying style and fashion. It sounds like you are already on a meaningful personal journey in other ways - the things that stand out to me are ‘feeding the inner child’ and ‘fairy’. Can these be inspirational for your style as well? Not in a literal way but are there things you wanted to wear as a child but felt you couldn’t? Are there patterns or colours that can be worn as an adult but also speak to that inner child?

Congratulations on your degree and all the work you are doing to sort out who you are and the direction you want to go!

You probably can’t post photos yet, but without them it’s hard to make suggestions because the same words can have different meanings for different people. Maybe you can do some finds (there’s a thingy you have to download, or you can make custom ones with your own photos online) or Pinterest boards (which might let people click through to the rest of your stuff—not sure, cause I’m not a Pinterester).

For me, figuring out my style (I’m much further along on the summer side than winter) has meant a deep dive into my closet, wearing for the first time some things I bought long ago. I thought they were “me” back then. I still think they are, but had to figure out what to do with them. Spending time figuring out what I liked about some items and what kept me from reaching for others was key for me.

Other people prefer to look away from their closet and get inspiration from the big wide world out there. They generally amass a bunch of pix, as you have done, and then comb through them for themes, sometimes with help from people here. I think that usually results in buying new pieces to match the aesthetic they come up with.

I suggest you take a middle route, with pix of the couple items in your closet that you do like, and some inspo from online to help figure out what you want the final look to be. Then take that back to what you already own to figure out how to accessorize the pieces that are just ok to make outfits you feel good in. You don’t have to love every item in an outfit to feel super in it. I don’t know quite what a Disney adult is, but maybe a gossamer scarf over a plain old top, with your locks draping down, would be a happy place for you. Or maybe you want to drape the scarf over your lap in the wheelchair. A scarf might be totally off—the point is that a few small additions, whatever they are, might save you from buying a whole new wardrobe.

One other note: I don’t if it’s true for you or not, but for me, trying too hard is deadly. Check out my posts on trying to do androgyny or dark summer for examples. Once you figure out the general outline, relaxing into it may be the way to go.

Hello. I am 32F with little money to work with. I’m an omnisexual, small fat, petite, thrifty elder emo living in Southern California with a disability that sometimes requires a wheel chair. This disability resulted in me shaving off most of my blonde curly hair due to pain and exhaustion from standing up too long. I had to keep some of it because I have a round face and unfortunately couldn’t pull off being totally bald. I have some mental illness issues that also interfere with my self-care habits. Recently, feeding the inner child through becoming a Disney adult and trying to figure out how to turn my house into a fairy paradise are the only things that make me feel like a human. I also just graduated college with a humanities degree, so when my health is more manageable, I’ll be joining the museum workforce. When I was in high school and in my 20s I was considered especially attractive after being bullied for my appearance (among other things) before then. I’m working on expanding what beauty means but the programming is difficult when it comes to my own body. I tend to present more femme even though my body type has more typically masculine features, with the exception of having a large chest. I enjoy feeling feminine, but it’s the worst on my health. I also have a lot of work attire trauma, so I’m not sure what I’m doing there. I love any fashion that has unbridled personality and I hate 2022 clothes but also really want to update my wardrobe. I’m in a place where I’m not even sure what I like anymore, so I’ve been throwing things I’m sure I like into a Pinterest folder to be sorted later. Other than that I have no idea what I’m doing. I feel like I’m simultaneously being pulled in multiple directions while also getting nowhere. What am I supposed to wear? Thanks for any help you can provide.
