I wonder if I could casualize this look (and similar looks) with high top sneakers? Or would oxfords as Inge mentioned be the better bet? I live such a casual life. Either way, would black be the only color to consider? I'm not sure I'd get enough wear out of black. It certainly doesn't bookend my hair.

I'm not really trying to look "sexy" - I think the pumps and red lipstick, along with the hat add to that in her case.

I'm looking for more of an "everyday" way to wear my leopard shirt and black moto jacket with jeans for fall/winter.

This post of hers is a year old. I think a more substantial shoe would look more current and I don't think I would miss the hat at all.

Claire- You crack me up. Those sneakers are definitely going back now!

Janet - you always have such great shoes! I think I'm just shoe deprived.
Inge - thanks - that would be a good option to consider

missvee- black cutout booties could be fun.

Carole - I don't have tan/putty booties but have been considering getting some. I'd probably get more wear from an oxford though.

lisap - it doesn't have to be a sneaker of course, I was just throwing that out there as a wild card possibility. Really wondering more about flatter or low heeled shoes working and about the color options to get a similar look. I'm not sure if the *look* is sexy or if it's just Jessica. :-) I kind of figured the nude shoes echoed the lighter tones in the blouse.

Thanks for your replies - very helpful!

Jeneva, The sneakers aren't mine yet (not worn out of the house) but they are awfully comfortable and actually look better IRL (color wise) than the image shows. They *do* however remind me a bit of the "old folks", which is why I have not worn them out and still may return them. I was just throwing that out there as a very different take on the outfit wondering if that part would work. I do have sandals in nude but this is a cold weather outfit. I've been shopping for taupe desert boot style shoes but nothing has worked out yet and they also are such a different vibe.

Firecracker - I love your unconventional suggestion of a cap but really I only wear hats to hike and I would just feel strange wearing one any other time.

I may have to just learn to love the black booties I have as this is the only way I seem to be able to wear my black moto jacket successfully.

Slip on sneakers in leather would be great (for me) but I haven't found a pair to work for me yet. Many of them have the same "old folks" vibe to me as those tan sneakers.

Shoes are my nemesis.

That's a look after my own heart. But I do agree with Janet in that the nude pump is a little unexpected here...but maybe that's her (the blogger) point? Anyways, hers is a sexy look, for sure, and it's hard to duplicate that with a flat sneaker. Casual and cool, yes, but not as rock'n'roll sexy. I WISH I could wear a hat like that! It's on my list of things to try on ...

My thought was a pair of tan low heeled booties like Sam Edelman Pettys. In fact, I have very similar pieces and could get close!

Oh, I like Jenava's idea of a slip-on sneaker! I think it's a good idea to keep the footwear very current. I'm imagining those Vince pony black slip-on sneakers with the white sole…

I'd probably wear this with my Ash Genials.

Texstyle, I could see this work with a flat (or low-heeled) oxford style shoe. Either a dark colour like black, dark brown, dark grey, or ink. Or a metallic silver or gold. That could give you a similar "rock 'n' roll" vibe, methinks.

I'm with Janet, a heeled black bootie with some flair would have made the outfit look better, IMO. I have to be honest - those sneakers kind of remind me of something someone in a nursing home would wear, so I can't say I'd support that look. (-; But, try them and prove me wrong! LOL...

You could maybe also try a printed slip on sneaker?

I've not read the other responses yet, but IMHO, I'd like the look better with more substantial footwear. It almost looks a little top-heavy to me, with all the black plus the hat on top and the nude shoes. As I scrolled down the photo and saw her shoes, they actually detracted from a rock'n'roll vibe, to my eye, and pushed the look a bit more into "sexy sophisticate" territory. I would probably wear black booties but that's just my personal preference, and the way *I* do "rock'n'roll." ;-)

But I see no reason why you couldn't do a version of this with your sneakers! Just keep some lighter touch in the top part of the outfit to bookend (in the case of Jessica's outfit, maybe open the jacket more), or even your hair should do the trick. Then there's the matter of choosing whether (and how) to roll the jeans. I think this is totally attainable. Of course it won't look exactly like her outfit, but that's the idea -- to adapt it to you!

Nah, you don't need black on the bottom with lighter hair. You just need to make sure there is some black or charcoal somewhere else in the outfit. In this case the print of the blouse ties with your jacket, so it's all good.

You could certainly try it. I just realized she has no black on the bottom half of her outfit. I can see why black booties would feel heavy to you, with your hair color and climate, actually. I know--tan sneakers with black socks! Just kidding. If you don't own the sneakers yet, maybe you could try out the outfit with another light colored shoe or sandal (or barefoot!) just to see if you think it would work.

I've wondered if I can pull off my new taupe Chelsea boots with my black blazer in a similar outfit. Do we still need to put black on the bottom? I'd be wearing jeans in a similar wash to hers.

I could see it with the pants rolled to show your ankle, as Diana suggests, and perhaps with a baseball cap instead of the brimmed hat. Especially if you had a leather baseball cap in a light color. Without a hat can work, too. The look will be less dressy, but I still think it would be cool.

It may work if you rolled the jeans up higher. I think the length she is wearing only works with a heel or possibly a nude bootie (no bare skin showing).

Hmmm. I honestly don't know. For me it wouldn't work. A light coloured bootie might. But if you leave off the hat, maybe your hair will provide enough to bookend the blouse and you can wear whatever footwear you like?

I came across this post by another fashion blogger (Jessica Quirk) and I really liked the outfit which she calls "rock and roll." I have a leopard shirt and a black moto style jacket, and enough bracelets in similar styles, but I wonder, is there really any way to achieve a similar look without the heels and the hat?

It's pretty casual already so I wonder about the shoes in particular. Black booties feel "heavy" for my style when I tried them before with a black moto. Could a new but similar look be created by purposefully changing out the shoes to something super casual like these tennis shoes?
