Most definitely go to a real store and try on all sorts of brands and styles. If you have a Nordstrom Rack nearby, they are hit & miss, but worth checking after you narrow it down to a brand or two.

modgrl - I never thought about the knee break! Is that where the flaring begins?

Another vote for the Joe's Provacateurs, they are amazing for petites. The knee break is at the perfect spot.

Canadians reading this - where can we go to try on a whole bunch of different premium denim brands if we are considering making this leap? I mean, besides "across the border."

Paige premium is amazing....higher rise but NOT mom jeans. They are the most flattering jeans I have ever worn. Hidden Hills in Dusk (Paige) bootcut is on sale at Amazon for $68. This is a steal since they're usually $150+

I highly recommend!

Isis is right. I tried several brands (COH, 7FAM, True Religion, Paige) and Paige was the only one working for me. Now I feel more comfortable ordering this brand online.

I agree with Isis. Joe's and AG would both be good brands to try out.

Crazyone, if it were me, I would first go to a brick and mortar store to try on a lot of premium jeans. They all fit differently, and sizes are different, so you want to figure out a style and a size before you end up buying a lot....unless you don't mind returning, but I would find that frustrating!

C-One, I would take a look at what's on SmartBargains (YLF partner, so you can click right from this site). I've found many of my premium jeans there at steep discounts.

6pm (another YLF partner) also carries a fair number of pairs. One caution about the ones you find on discount sites: sometimes they are there due to oddities of fit. That can work in your favor, or not.

I like my Miss Me bootcuts but I'm not sure I'd consider them mid-rise. I am a tad pearish and they have room for my booty and thighs :)

just measured - they are almost 8" front rise and almost 13" back rise on size 27.

I know that Lisa (who I think is also a pear) recommended the Joe's Provacateurs in petite to me, and I LOVE them as an IT shape. They are pricey, but Nordie's had them on sale for $99 and you probably won't have to hem them. The rise is also good for MT.

I'm really in need of a new pair of bootcut jeans, and I think I'll try and dip my toes into the world of premium denim, as long as I can get a pair in the $60-85 range (which seems quite possible on amazon.com and other sites). But I have no idea where to start, and since I'm buying online, I don't want to order an infinite number of jeans. Do you have any recommendations on what brands and cuts would work for me? I'm 5 ft 3, 110 pounds, an hourglass/pear hybrid, and I want something mid-rise to avoid muffin-top.
