Vildy, thank you for confirming that! I thought it had to do with the cut - which it does, as it's literally the definition. I have some good home ec textbooks from the 40s and 50s; I ought to take a look at them in that respect. I rarely wear pencil skirts so I tend to skip those drafting/fitting pages.

I bought and returned this skirt, because I didn't think I'd wear it very often even though I loved it and the way it fit. I didn't worry about creasing because it's a casual skirt. I think I'm just too awkward to keep a short pencil skirt PG.

I was just reading that this creasing is built into a pencil/straight skirt (unless it would be of knit/stretch material). It's just the nature of it. In order to complete eliminate it, we'd have to wear skirts with a hem circumference at least 6" larger than the hip circumference - but then it wouldn't be a pencil skirt. :D I think the info is from Lost Art of Dressing, where she analyzes the advice of a previous generation's home ec instructors.

Gigi -- I gained 8 pounds since Christmas. I never really thought of myself as particularly curvy on the bottom half, but perhaps that has changed.

I have a bit of a crease in a navy work skirt, but I forgive the skirt as I like it too much! So, I think I am with Gigi, if it is a bit, that is okay, and if it is too much, then move on. It looks to be a great skirt though.

Are you by chance curvy on your bottom half? I get the crease on pretty much all pencil skirts, denim or not. I have decided that it is because there isn't enough fabric to 100% accommodate my behind, so when I walk, the skirt rides up a bit. I am just mindful of how big the crease is and how much the skirt rides up. If it is too much, I return it, but if it is just a small amount, I live with it.

Hmm, I'm not sure my denim skirts have highly noticeable creasing. I think that would be a deal breaker and I would move on.

I returned this lovely skirt because I couldn't deal with the crease; it was over exaggerated on me, even for a denim skirt. Hope you'll post outfits with it so I can enjoy seeing it ^^ Interesting you kept your usual size, I had to size down.

Like denim jeans, the skirt will relax on wearing. The crease does not bother me but I know what you mean. I have a blue denim skirt with stretch that is so comfortable...like a tube skirt. My white one has no stretch.. How is the sizing of the one you bought? It is tempting me.

I decided that it doesn't bother me as much as I thought. It is something I can live with. There is just enough stretch to the skirt that it has the distinct feel of "jammies." Yay for me.

I'm going to a gem and mineral show shortly. I'm wearing the skirt as it seem perfect for this occasion.

This happens with me with my denim pencil skirts and also with most of my woven non-denim pencil skirts. I think Tanya is right. It is a property of the material/fabric. I personally love pencil skirts, so I have learned to "embrace the crease".

My skirt arrived and it fits. It has stretch!!! Evidently, I will wear denim if it has stretch. The old denims were heavy, stiff, and just too damn hot. I avoided it like the plague.

My question. There is a fold that appears along the front of the skirt. The fold appears when I walk or sit (especially walk). The skirt folds across the front just below my hip flexors. Does this mean the skirt is too small? Or is this a thing with denim skirts? Thanks.
