It is very large. I have owned several Lole coats. Because they are mainly an athletic/ active wear brand, their regular sizing tends to be on the narrow-fitted side, so my previous coats were size small. I ordered this coat in xs (sized down) and it is still very oversized on me. I can layer all kinds of stuff under it. It could be quite overwhelming on my frame without the option of making adjustments, i.e. pushing sleeves up and securing them, cinching the waist, etc. In truth, it still does overwhelm me, a little. :)

The most oversized area is the shoulder/ bust/ sleeve area. That is an area where my frame is small. A person with a larger frame/ bigger bust/ broader shoulders would not find it as oversized as I do. In the last photo, you can see the stranger I ran into, in London, wearing the same coat. She has hers done all the way up (sensible -- it was pouring!) and I don't think it overwhelms her quite as much -- she has a slightly broader frame than I do.

You can get a sense of how roomy it is from the side view. There is room in the back shoulder area. In that photo I am wearing a shirt and a vest beneath the coat. In photo 3, I likely have my bulky cotton sweater under the coat, and in photo 4, I have a shirt and lightweight blazer under the coat.

To tell the truth, I think this would work work better on me if it were less oversized or slightly differently oversized, but all things considered, I am very happy with it -- the look is a bit avant-garde and different from my usual and that is not a bad thing.

If I could ever find a lightweight packable version of my old J. Crew long utility coat (photo 5) in a light colour, I would be ALL OVER that, because its neater fit (which I can still layer under) is more suited to my frame/ proportions. I still own this coat, but it is very much the worse for wear, is not really waterproof any more (waxed cotton, needs re-waxing) and is much, much less packable / carry friendly than the Lole coat, which is brilliant in that regard. It could not have been more convenient for travel and it is a great spring-weight coat.

Will also be watching for Suz's reply! I love a coat that fits over layers.

Suz you posted a couple of times recently about your new Lole Piper coat and how much you loved it. I’m thinking of trying it. How is the sizing? It’s called “oversized “. I believe you said it worked well over jacket and sweaters. Did you get the size predicted by your measurements, or did you size down?

Thanks!!
