That makes perfect sense Lisa! Very well articulated. I will get a cheap pair of clips from H&M or something and give it a try. Thanks!

I'm here! Yes, I do the twist and shake method which I will try to explain. It's one of those things that showing is easy but typing, eh.

Before I put the hair in a clip I twist it, the twist creates a thicker section and the bulk helps keep the hair in place. Also the twist keeps smaller hairs in place because they are now mixed in with larger hairs (my hair is layered, a french braid, the pieces come out in 10minutes no matter how tight I pull it, too many layers).

After the clip is in, I do a soft shake. I find when putting clips on the sides, there are pieces farther back that try to sit over them. The very soft shake lets me see what hairs are trouble makers and I stuff those into the clipped hair. (I find there is always a 1/" section of hair from the back that somehow makes it's way to the sides covering up my pretty clips) Sometimes I have to undo the clip and grab those hairs, retwist and put them in. It works really well for me. Hope this made sense!

Maya, it was actually Lisa who showed me how to do this, and I was so excited because the hair near the back of my head always falls in front of the clip. I had since forgotten how to do it and recently e-mailed Lisa, who said the trick is to twist the hair before it goes into the barrette. I haven't had a chance to try it, but will report back when I do. Hopefully Lisa will chime in with more advice.

Steph, you have become the authority on all things hair for me :)

I vaguely remember you showing Lisa and/or Tanya how to place decorative hair clips so the hair doesn't fall out or fall over them and cover them at the DC meetup. Am I imagining this? If not, can you refresh my memory on how to do this? I would like to try it while I grow it out.
