Thank you so much, Diane! It sounds sort of as I expected. I guess I should take the jeans to my tailor and see what he says.

Hmm, yea. It isn't always that easy to put slits in jeans, but it can be done. The photo that just shows the narrow flat seams would actually be easier to do it with. When it's a proper felled, folded jeans seam it makes it tricky to manipulate. With a narrow seem like you show in the pic, if I were to attempt a slit I would most likely add a small facing to each seam to make a proper job of a slit. It is doable though. Creating a slightly lapped slit may even be possible. If I were doing such jobs I'd have to assess the jobs depending on the types of seam, but I can usually find a way of doing it.

I am really liking the look of side slits on both jeans and pants and wondering if it is technically possible to add a slit to a normal pair of jeans/pants. I keep thinking that it should be possible but when I look at the seam allowances there seems to be hardly any due to the way the seams have been stitched. If you look closer at the two examples provided in the Finds ( one can click through the Finds and zoom in at the retailer's website), the black pants seem to have a real simple split while in the case of the AG jeans there is a bit of the material overlap which might make it difficult (says someone with no sewing experience and knowledge whatsoever). I am also attaching the pic of the inside seam of the candidate jeans.
