Oh, thanks for the pics! You are so cute!

Yes, I will be in jeans and Keens! And my nice new rain coat or my old parka.

and the tops with cardigans and dark jeans are my go-to dinner attire, too. :)

Love your grey pants-- I have some similar in brown/khaki color, but the grey is cute!

Thanks again!

Your AT dress is really pretty and it is perfect style-wise for the formal night. So if you're comfortable with that, go for it. Take pictures!

Thanks, Sarah!

Yes, most of the time I will be in jeans and hikers!

I love the dress, but I'm afraid the chiffon is not practical-- it would probably get ruined too quickly. My little black dress is jersey, too. I was just trying to mix it up a bit.

Thank you!

...and as for the rest of the cruise, it really depends what excursions you have planned. On excursion days I wore a wardrobe courtesy of REI. Nothing else would have been practical for me.
On sea days and for dinner I wore nicer jeans, oxford pumps, 3/4 sleeve cardigans, or grey REI pants, knit tops, and denim jackets.
Here are a few photos to give you an idea:

Hehe, a general "Ask Sarah" topic. I feel special. ;)
I loved Alaska, me2me2 and I want to go back so bad! I went via Norwegian on the Norwegian Star. My cruise was more of an adventure cruise but they did have a formal night (meet the captain, etc) but we didn't go. I could hardly fit all my gear in my suitcase as it was. I hiked, kayaked, cycled in the mountains, went to spin classes and kept up with my weight training so there was a lot of gear involved.
But yes, that dress would be very appropriate. No need for wraps or anything unless you plan on going out on deck after the formal. In that case you'd need more than a wrap to stay warm - even in the summer. Formal night typically takes place on a sea day (no ports, just cruisin') so you're out to see and it's coooold!
If I go again, I'd probably attend and wear something like this
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....6&P=2
It's jersey, so it's able to wad up in the suitcase and deal with the tight spaces of a cabin.
If I were you, I'd find a great dress that you love (and maybe a jersey for the kids?) and can wear to multiple functions after the cruise.
And have a blast in Alaska! Kiss the soil for me.

Hi Sarah,

I read that you had been on a cruise to Alaska. Was it the Sea Princess? I am trying to decide what to wear for the formal nights.

MIL has warned not to dress too formally--that the ones who are really all done up look obnoxious, and I don't want to really stand out, but it would be fun to be pretty! Hubby will be wearing a suit and tie, so I'm not looking for a long gown or super flashy. I am borderline plus size, so it's hard to find something that fits just on a whim-- I really have to work for it!

I have a little black dress that will work for one of the nights. Then I ordered this:
http://www.anntaylor.com/catal.....pe=Regular in a pretty aqua color that is now sold out. I received it, it fits! (the straps need shortened just a touch) and the color is really pretty-- not too minty or bright, just right. However, it is a pricey dress for me, and I would still need to find some sort of a cardi or wrap to match it, and shoes.

Do you think this dress is too dressy or too formal? Should I look for something more casual and practical? (The silk chiffon could snag really easily-- and I have little kids!)

I would love to hear any fashion advice you would have about the whole cruise! Thank you!

Thanks Sarah,

I've been to Dallas too. One thing Austin doesn't have: Club Monacco which I love and want to go to if I'm going to travel to shop. But thanks for the name!

Not sure if you've considered Dallas, but their Nordstrom is even bigger and the Galleria has some great shops that we don't necessarily have here (or not in the same shopping center as Nordstrom anyway).

Oh hi! Yes, my girl at Nordstrom's name is Leslie, but they are all really good. I haven't checked to see if she's still there lately, though.
But all of them are so nice and helpful.

Mattie, just wanted to say you may have to bump this in a day or two...Sarah isn't always on the forum on weekend. Hopefully she'll spot this soon.
Good luck with your bra fitting, when you have it.

Somewhere buried in a thread I asked about your bra sales girl. This is on my to do list for the summer. I'm in Waco but want to go to Nordies for a fitting. Would you mind sharing her name? Thanks!
