Global Leadership are the people who are involved in the creation and managing of the events, both in Black Rock and the wider world. It's all the super-nerdy behind the scenes stuff that the average participant never thinks about: conflict resolution, art as community rhetoric, metrics and methodology around volunteer/ gift economy. The conference will be THOSE people, not the general participant population (Google execs and incredible Bay-area artists).&nbsp;</p> <p>So, I think it's PROBABLY more like "dude, dust your dreads with baking soda and remember to use your deo crystal." ...I don't want to be disrespectful of event planners and organisers from around the world by being too casual, but I am also acutely aware of the radical self-expression/ decommodification/ entrenched artistic bent that makes up the bulk of the population's self-identification. I'm talking 60,000 people large descend on the desert and create an art- and music-filled temporary city, that they completely dismantle and take away with them when it's all done. These are intensely creative people who carry "radical self expression" as a central cultural tenet, with a heavy personal investment in their community and the culture that has grown up around it.&nbsp;</p> <p>I'm pretty involved in the community, at a regional level, which is why I'm presenting (super exciting and a really big honor to be selected). I want to look polished and marginally respectable since I'm presenting, but I also want to make sure I'm not "over-done" - I also need to be relate-able as part of the community and not create a sense of distance.</p> <p>That's where you come in! What on earth should I wear to hit all of these notes? I will be rubbing shoulders with major players from the community from across the globe, and I'm terrified to be the corporate bumpkin from North Carolina.&nbsp; </p>
