Don't worry about your expanding size, it should be a badge of honor since you'll be a new momma in a few short months! As for the undergarment problem, there are so many new maternity bras on the market that are wireless and made specifically to suit an expanding chest (a lot of the styles are super cute to boot)!

This post that I came across seems to have all the info you're looking for with some super, super cute bra suggestions. Hope this helps :)

Good luck with everything and congratulations!

I have no specific experience in this department, but I have heard that Spanx brand bra-lellujah, or whatever it is called, is very comfortable and wire-free.

Congratulations!

Firstly, congratulations. Enjoy this time.

Starting as a DD pre-pregnany but not experiencing a whole lot of changes in bra size until post partum I can somewhat relate. I've always worn a "sleep bra" for night comfort. Now it's just camis with shelf bra, but during pregnancy it was like the stretchy kind previously mentioned. My belly grew enough to compensate so the breasts did not take full center stage. Was it the bagels? Probably.
Most important is your comfort. Find a decent bra or 2 in your new size, but wait until after birth for the nursing bra size.
I do believe you notice it more than anyone at this point (because you know yourself more AND you know what's going on)

Thank you all very much for your replies and congratulations! I realize it doesn't come across in my note, but I am thrilled and my DH is as well. I just didn't expect any such drastic changes so soon - I don't even see an ob-gyn for a few weeks. I must confess that in the words of the book "from the hips" I feel sort of like a science experiment. I am sure I will settle in eventually.

I was able to find a couple of soft-cup bras today for around the house, one substantial enough to wear out if I was so inclined. I have also ordered the Ta Ta Tamer from Lululemon (sports bra) so hopefully that will work out. Thanks so much for all the recommendations, I am tracking them down now.

Congratulations, Emily!

Like Amy, I bought nursing bras at a maternity store in my second trimester. They were able to accurately predict at that point what size would work then and also through breastfeeding. They had at least a few styles that were more like sports bras, too.

Also, they didn't keep growing as fast as they did those first few weeks!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy next "35 weeks or so!"

Congratulations! I can't offer too much help, but I bought my mom some sassybax to wear around the house after she had a surgery, and she is quite large busted. She really liked those a lot. I believe Spanx now makes a similar stretchy bra.

I don't think I can add anything useful to this thread now, but my heartfelt congratulations on your "hormonal changes". ;o) I don't think I ever felt more feminine than during my first pregnancy, and so in awe of a creative process over which I had so little control and yet was so intimately involved in.

Lol Amy, I know what you mean. An old tee shirt of my husband's would effectively conceal them, but also made me look 50 lbs heavier than I actually was. So I opted for more feminine tops, but the problem is, when you're only 5'1" and you've got F cups, there's not enough real estate on your ribcage to contain them. Any bra you wear is going to cause them to touch in the middle, causing the 1950s Hollywood starlet look, which is hard for people to not notice.

Amy, what you say about people being more interested in the expanding tummy is true, but if your boobs are big enough, they'll notice those too. No one ever made a reach for my tummy (and I was all prepared with an appropriate rebuff if they did, and I never got to use it!) but I did have several embarrassing incidents involving my pregnancy bustline. One time, a colleague of my husbands' took a picture of my cleavage. ONLY my cleavage -- not my head.

Emily, do you have a maternity store in your area? I ended up buying nursing bras while still pregnant and wore those. The sales clerks may be able to give you good advice too. I relied on them to help me to know what to expect and what types of clothing were available. Things have changed a lot since I've had babies :)

Shelf bra camis weren't supportive enough for me, because like you I started out with a DD cup and ended up much, much larger. Sports bras may be the way to go.

I wasn't very fashionable when I was pregnant. I have to confess to wearing some of my husbands tops. I'm almost a foot shorter and half the weight of my husband, so those were tents. However, I do see some very cute pregnant women wearing pretty tunics.

People are going to be far more interested in your expanding tummy rather than your bustline. I'll be surprised if you don't end up having random strangers reaching out and patting your tummy without asking. That drove me crazy.

Oh my dear Emily. I could have written your post. I'm a D cup ordinarily, and when I was pregnant, they just got bigger...and bigger...and firmer...and warmer...it felt like I was brewing hot chocolate in there.

They do max out eventually. Sometime in the second trimester, I think. They also kind of rest on your belly, once it swells up enough. And then after the birth, when your milk comes in, they will suddenly be VERY HEAVY too, and good support is a must. I wore these not very pretty, but very functional and comfy, soft cotton maternity/nursing bras by a company called Bravado. I was living in the states at the time and had to import them from Canada (the only example of any time I've ever had ship things in that direction!). A bunch of my American mom friends were using them too.

http://www.bravadodesigns.com/

One thing I will say: I wore a bra all the time, even in bed, and despite the fact that my breasts at least doubled in size, they are not saggy now. I nursed both babies (albeit only for five months each) and my little one will be five years old this year, so it has been a long time since everything has gone back to normal. I am very grateful, because I was positive my breasts would be hanging down around my waist by now. I don't know how much of a factor wearing a bra full-time was (there's a possibility it's just genetics), but I'm glad I didn't take any chances.

If it makes you feel better, my breasts went back down to exactly the same size they were before my pregnancy. Whew! They didn't stay huge. Yours probably will go back down, too.

Congratulations on the baby, by the way! It's a very exciting time, despite the unwieldy boob situation.

I started out small (A) and ended up around a C so my experience isn't too relevant, but at home I loved camis with shelf bras and then just a loose tunic on top. For nursing I wore shelf bra camis with a t-shirt over top so I could lift my shirt and still have my stomach covered.

I also wore lots of crop top elastic bralette style things. Stretchy soft bras are the key.

I have no idea how to deal with it...I am rather "small" , but congratulations !!!! I do agree with Manidipas on looking into sports Bras. I bought a couple of fabulous ones after my breast cancer surgery from Title Nine. Very stretchy for the swelling and no wires. I loved them so much that I slept in them for the extra support and comfort. ( Not both at once, LOL )

Congratulations, Emily! (I hope... please tell me I'm not putting my foot in my mouth?)

I've no specific recommendations, but thought one of those camis or tanks with built-in-soft cups might be a handier and cheaper buy for around the house than a bra until your size settles. Alternatively, how about a sports bra for both extra stretch and support?

Good morning,

Due to some, ahem, hormonal changes in the past 5 weeks or so, my breasts have become gigantic, unwieldy, painful beasts. I was a D cup to begin with, but have gained a cup size already and needed to be fit for new bras. I've found a couple that offer sufficient support, but I know there is nowhere to go in the next 35 weeks or so but bigger.

I would really appreciate advice on how to deal with my increased voluptuousness clothing wise, and recommendations for comfortable/supportive preferably wireless undergarments to wear around the house.

Maybe it's because they're attached to me and I see them all the time, but I am completely paranoid that everyone will notice how gigantic they are. Ridiculous? A little bit.
