I just ordered the navy Majesty peacoat. I was also torn between sizes I have size 2 breast and hip size but size 6 shoulders and waist. I thought long and hard and tried to find sizing info in blogs, but without much luck. I live in Europe and my husband had to travel to the US. I decided to be safe and order the 6 and have the coat delivered to his hotel and got a great deal with 50% of the sale? Now I'm crossing my fingers that it works out fine. Why do bloggers not take the trouble of jotting down the measurements? Itwould be so helpful. Especially the shoulder measurement. I van advice to check the net-a-porter eu website as they stock different J.Crew styles and (YES!!) give the products measurements by size. On top of that they give useful advice like 'those with broad shoulders may wish to size up' or ' those with a petite frame may consider to go down a size' .

Thank you very much for all the suggestions and help ladies, much appreciated! It will make coat stalking much easier!

Suz, I am not at all surprised you have been thinking about those same coats based on our recent threads :) I am really hoping the tipped coat comes back into stock. I kind of considered pulling the trigger when it was 30% off full price, but that is still a lot of money for me. I paid less for my Mackage coat in the past!

I love the idea of the J. Crew peacoat or the tipped coat for you, Tanya. I don't own either but also have my eye on both!

I have a wool toggle coat from JCrew Factory and it's great quality -- also a wool pencil skirt that is definitely a step down. I think in general, the outerwear at the Factory store is well-made and good quality. They had pink majesty coats in my Factory store this year that looked and felt pretty identical to the retail coat I picked up last year. I do think the wool pencil skirts are not as good -- I'm not sure why that is -- but for outerwear I find Factory very reliable.

I have had the Lady coat for three or so years. It still looks great! My body type is almost exactly like yours, and the cut and length of this coat work very well for me with pants or skirts.

I tried the majesty peacoat this season in a 0R and a 2P. I think I am usually a 2 or 0. Both of the coats were too small. I phoned about the sizing and the sales rep said going up to the 2R should give another inch in the chest and change sleeve length minimally. I think that will be the right size for me but I am waiting to see what Santa leaves under the Christmas tree. Therefore I think the coat is TTS or running small this year. I posted the 0R here and people said it looked good, but it was too restrictive, especially over a sweater.

I haven't tried a wool coat, but I have tried their wool suiting. It was much closer to their JCrew line than I would have expected. Better than Gap for sure. I did have a quality issue with one of their skirts. It really broke my heart because it was a fantastic pattern and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it stretched completely out of size during the day and (because it was unlined) it also rode up and around and crazy everywhere throughout the day, so I sent it back. They refunded my money without question.

I think the Majesty will fit you nicely. As far as Factory's quality, I have sweater and jeans from them and though not as good as J Crew, still well made. Better than Gap IMO.

Thank you very much for your answers ladies! The peacoat would be primarily worn with pants. It seems that you are in the favor of longer peacoats for me.

Angie, based on the sizing you describe, it seems that size 2 would be the safest bet for me. I normally tend to go a size up from you in most things I should also try some of the coats on in a store if I happen to be near one soon.

Of the pea coats, I like the JCrew Majesty length the best for you. It may depend somewhat on whether you will wear the coat more with pants or dresses. I have a short VC pea coat and a short torso. I wish the coat were a bit longer for warmth and proportions.

Hah. Gaylene. I didn't know we were Majesty twins. Love hubby's reaction.

Tanya, I'm in favour of the longer styles for your long torso. So #1 and #3. #5 looks too short.

My citron Majesty and tomato red Metro are both three seasons old and a size 00 (fit is good with the appropriate layers underneath - like thermals, sweater and blazer). I think they ran large a few seasons ago because I don't usually wear a 00 at J.Crew. I cannot rave enough about the quality of both my J.Crew coats. They get worn and cleaned a lot - and still look new. I have no experience with J.Crew Factory quality - but perhaps someone else will chime in about that.

I bought the navy Majesty in a tall because I have a long torso and couldn't be happier. After trying on dozens of pea coats in all styles and lengths, when I put this one on, my husband's reaction was "Wow, you ARE keeping that one, aren't you?" I originally thought I might change the gold buttons, but I actually think they look good against the navy. The fabric is beautiful.

I sized up so I could wear a light sweater, and, other than having to shorten the sleeves, the fit was perfect. The CPW of this jacket is going down fast since I'm constantly grabbing it to wear running errands and for casual evenings out.

On my recent body type analysis post we determined that I have a long upper body, long rise, shorter legs, and possibly long waist and long hip line. I do not own a peacoat but would love one should I come across the right deal. I would be curious to know what peacoat length would be most flattering on a body type like mine.

We have three different lengths for consideration:
1. A longer peacoat, such as J Crew Majesty (photos 1 and 2)
2. A normal length peacoat, such as Menchi for Intermix (photos 3 and 4)
3. A cropped peacoat, such as Barbara Bui version (photo 5)
These are not the actual coats I would consider, other than the J Crew one. I just chose their pictures to illustrate the different lengths.

A somewhat related question is on the fit of four different J Crew coats I am looking at and might get one with the right after Christmas price. For all of them I am interested if they run TTS, and what size I should get (most likely a 0 or a 2) if I am aiming for a normal tailored fit that a medium weight sweater could comfortably fit underneath? Obviously the answers might be different for the different coats. I would be ordering online without trying them on and J Crew makes discounted online sales final, so it would be risky. The coats in question are the aforementioned Majesty Peacoat, as well as the three full length double-cloth coats: Lady coat (photo 6), Metro coat (photo 7) and currently sold out gorgeous Tipped coat (photo 8) that occasionally pops back. Also, do you have a preference between the three long coats in terms of the cut for me?

Finally, Angie raves about J Crew outerwear quality. How does the J Crew Factory outerwear quality compare?

Many thanks ( I know this is lots of questions)!
