I like these as a baggy skinny. What Suz says about fabric and drape makes perfect sense, and something for me to keep in mind when jeans shopping, thanks!

I think the real stopping point for the "sized up" skinny is fabrication.

If the fabric is too thin and stretchy, sizing up will never work.

Instead of drape and fluidity, you get the baggy elephant skin look. It still clings, but there is too much of it.

This will be especially true if you have a curvy figure. If you are stick straight, you might be able to "get away" with sizing up on a thin, lightweight jean. But otherwise -- forget it.

What you need is a fabric with enough weight and/ or stiffness. Here, you have it. So it works. :)

You also need a cut that allows for a bit of ease.

Endorsement from Angie and from the forum! Whew, you took a load from my heart! I will proudly wear those jeans as relaxed skinnies :-)

Thank you all for validation and for the compliments :-)
Laura, belt works fine with those jeans, they are not too-too big. My Kut BF jeans however are heading into that "too big to wear comfortably with the belt" category :-(
Catnip, I hope you enjoy your new jeans .

I'm on the they look great side. They still have shape and don't appear to be falling off. I frequently buy my skinnies too big because I prefer a straight leg look. I especially love how you've styled your jeans with the petty's and the white jacket. This is fabulous.

I knew I should have kept all my too big jeans when I lost weight! They look great in your pics. I find that the belt is the key to keeping oversized jeans in the right place - otherwise the crotch droops as you wear them and you're always tugging it up. I would imagine that the stopping point would be jeans that are so loose they can't be belted comfortably.

Sveta, to me, the fit does not look baggy in front (the whiskering lends the appearance of close-fitting-ness), though they do look a bit loose in the back. When I have loose-fitting jeans, I find that as long as I keep them at the right height with a belt so the bottom is not droopy, I don't mind the legs being loose.

Sveta, I think these look appropriately relaxed. I ended up with my first pair of faux BFs by hanging onto an old pair of David Kahn jeans that I had shrunk out of. I eventually ended up cutting them off to make clamdigger length shorts.

I have bought these Paige straight leg jeans a couple of years ago. I sized up to 33 as at the time size 32 was too snug in the thighs for my liking.
Recently I have lost a bit of weight and they are quite big now: I can remove them without unzipping.
Do they qualify as "relaxed skinnies" look or are they just plainly too big and a bad fit now? I am still struggling to understand where one fit ends and another one starts
