I've found shirts and blouses least likely to pull at the bust in stores/websites that seem to cater to the 40+ market -- which also means that frumpiness can creep in. The Brooks Brothers tailored and fitted shirts did not fit or flatter me; Banana Republic was worse. I recently bought a white Talbots petite shirt which fits well. The quality is very good but not great; I got in on sale for about $42 from about $78 full price so I am satisfied. I also bought some shirts from Lands End; reviews complained about the white shirts being see-through so I bought colored ones. Lands End is cut big so I sized down; they also seem to be generous in the hips. The quality is merely okay, but for $12 on sale I am not complaining. I would try J.Jill which is also cut generously in the hips; their fabric is good but their sizes seem to run as big as or even bigger than Lands End.

Thanks, Angie! I did try some Brooks Bros. shirts yesterday and liked the fit, the quality and the no-iron fabric so decided to go with a couple of those (on sale, Yay!). I've had good luck in the past with Foxcroft, but for some reason Nordstrom isn't carrying many styles anymore.

Thanks again.

Hi, deja!

You have quite a few options actually:

Brooks Brothers (try ALL their petite fits as they have several)

Foxcroft petites

Ann Taylor petites

Lafayette 148

Carissa Rose

Talbots petites

Experiment with their fits and report back

I eagerly encourage thorough investigation of this topic.

Cool that you found a great white shirt! Where did you get it from, can I ask?

ETA: Never mind, you give that info out in your other post on the subject.

Hi Angie,

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog earlier this week! Now that I've found the Lafayette 148 white shirt, I've been encouraged to try to find more white shirts. Can you recommend any brands/styles that might work for someone 5'1" with a 38.5" bust? (I'm also very short waisted so don't tuck my shirts in, would have to look OK worn untucked.) Thanks for your help and suggestions!
