Gigi and CG, maybe that is why I don’t get hathead, my beret is floppy. I love it because it is very warm and can be positioned however I want each time.

Fashintern, I find that if I get the larger-diameter (looser-fitting) berets, I don't get much hat hair (I still do get some, because my hair is very fine and has only waves and not true curls). The absolute best type of beret IMO for not giving hat hair is a lightweight cashmere one.

I saw fashionable women wearing them in Istanbul several years ago and decided they were for me. I like them to be on the big side and slouchy. I have a giant head so that’s a big order for a classic felt beret. I have found several, though. Good luck finding the perfect one for you.

After being unhappy with two berets (gifted) I donated them in the October closet clean out. In a strange twist I tried on a new red one in store and loved it! It was not tight like the ones I donated. I wear it all the time now. Being looser it doesn't squeeze my head or crush my hair. It is a Parkhurst.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a beret with leather trim around the opening. I'm thinking it might be a little less itchy then wool against the skin of my forehead.

FashIntern, hathead is much less, almost none with berets.
CG, I think you will still love your beret.

Thanks all. I have a red wool one that a friend got me one Xmas and I love it. Will have to try on now that I have short hair.

Beret wearers, how’s the hathead effect? Most people here go bareheaded, so when I take off my beanie and am the only one with such weirdly flat hair, it feels wrong. Is it better with a beret?

I have a beret like the one Angie posted, and I really like it. I get lots of compliments also.

You'll have to try on the beret to see if it runs slightly large (to give a slouchy effect) or whether it is meant to fit more tightly. I have both styles. I use the slouchier one when I am wearing my hair wavy, so that the waves aren't pulled out so much. When my hair has been straightened, I wear the tighter one.

The one I got came from Nordstrom. I think it was Halogen.

I like a bit of slouch on either side of my head because my face is long and thin. I also tuck in my bangs and keep it just above my eyebrows to shorten my face. No beanies for me!

SO many options. Personally, I like the felted kind that holds its shape. CLASSIC. I also like one that can cover my ears because I don't have long hair to keep them warm.

Angie - I love wearing headwear and head toppers on occasion and one of the things I want to incorporate more are berets. Do you know what makes for a good beret in terms of fit, size, material? I remember in the 80s owning a black beret with an emblem but I recall it being being slightly big.
